I am trying to get a Gamecube (or others) emulator to work on ps3 using linux. The problem seems to be that the cell is a PowerPC based processor and all the emulators don't work for it. Bochs doesn't work nor does qemu but there is GCube but that runs on Mac OS. Can any one help. P.S did have not tried these yet just going on what i have read.

The reason no emulators exist yet is because linux is unable to use the RSX (ps3 graphics card).

Can you use software acceleration through the cell? and qemu is sooooo slow it would be point less.

not sure about software acceleration, I suppose if it was possible people would have built an emu that takes full advantage of it. For anything to really happen on the PS3 its first gunna need to be crack wide open by the community, and while that have got a fair way its still not produced any results.

Are there any programmers out there that can port some emulators to the ps3 linux?

No, as I said before because of hardware limitations devs cant program anything thats too graphically advanced.

ok i am going to do some more research and see if you can run a gamecube emulator just on software acceleration. If so i'll see if i could learn to code and get it running. If so I'll post it up.

I have done some searching and for anyone interested this link has information on developing for the cell and even offers a Cell SDK on FedoraCore6 VMWare image.
http://www-static.cc.gatech.edu/%7Ebader/CellProgramming.html
By the looks of it the Cell processor alone has the power to software render last generation graphics if coded correctly.
