is possible to use usb lead internet lead instead of an ethernet cable to get ps3 online.

Compleletly different setup from your PC mate.
Its either from the LAN jack at the back or wireless (if you have the 60gig version).

I take it you would normally have the USB modem hooked into our PC? just network your PC directly to your PS3 then use internet connection sharing, the PS3 should then get its internet from the PC.

my modem router has a ethernet and usb port. i fort if i could use the usb it would save me some cash spending it on a ethernet port hub.

But you cant.
Its either an eternet cable from your PS3 to your PC then bridge the connections, or plug it into a spare port on your router.
You cannot do it through USB.
