Ok, I have read similar questions on this forum, but I need a definite answer. If I have a tv that only displays 1080i will the ps3 drop it down to 480i if the game can only go to 720p? It may sound like a dumb question, but do a search for 1080i and ps3 in yahoo and all the results say it does this. Was this just a problem in the beginning or is it still not fixed/unfixable?
Your TV doesnt just support 1080i, it supports all below it as well.
If your PS3 has automatically set itself for optimum settings it wont downscale 720p to 480i.
Then what was the big deal with everyone saying it didn't support 1080i tvs. The tv involved is an older one, crt. I hope your right. Thanks for replying.
Well if its a CRT TV then you neednt worry about anything above 560i because it wont display it.
Now your not using HDMI, so its the other composite cables red yellow white etc, your PS3 will know this and set itself to the best options for your TV.
It will downscale your games and bluerays, but theres nothing you can do about that, only buy a HDTV.
Originally posted by koalarock: well, maybe crt is the wrong word. I just mean its not lcd, plasma, or projection. Its big, but its hd Its tube, thats what I meant.
It's not LCD, plasma, or projection, fine. CRT refers to standard definition TV (SDTV)--all the regular tube TVs, regardless if they are flat screens (not to be confused with a flat panel lcd/plasma).
If you have SDTV, which is what you make it sound like (since you say it's big and it's tube, even though you also say it's HD), you're connected to the PS3 with the analog cables (red/white/yellow).
Regardless of what you have or how you are connected, the PS3 automatically selects the best option for you. And for the record, the PS3 supports all: 480, 720, 1080.
