I know I'm mostly gonna get a lot of responses like the PS3 doesn't need an intercooler and else what, but id like to have your opinion on the different types of intercoolers out there. This is not about using an intercooler or not but about what model/design is superior.
If anyone find different models/designs of intercoolers please let me know and I'll add it to the list.
There are three different types I have found:
1.) Nyko Intercooler
Like the dreaded intercooler they made for the 360, you plug the power into the intercooler and then from the intercooler to the console which ended horribly for the 360 model. Now they might have fixed it but they may not have all I know is I'm a tad suspicious but I like the wrap around design and the fan speed control nob.
2.)Pelican Intercooler
This intercooler runs off an ac adaptor which seems a lot safer than the current pass through on the Nyko, but having the ac adaptor is a pain in the ass... The intercooler has a thermal sensor on it that regulates the fan speed and is advertised to cool the PS3 up to 15 degrees. Also this intercooler was made to match the design of the ps3, same finish and the chrome piece to match, the Nyko is more of a matt black finish in comparison. It is only a top intercooler unlike the nyko which may be a good thing as Ive head that the Nyko's rear section stresses out the PS3's stock fans.
3.)Double Turbo Centrifugal Cooling Fan
This is probably the more simple of the three, it runs off the usb and hooks onto the front vents which is a far less bulky option yet doesn't seem too attractive. Since it is front mounted and appears to blow and not suck it could be used in line with either of the other two intercoolers above which would definitely make the intercoolers more efficient. As it runs off the usb which is better than the Nyko's setup, but it still takes power from the PS3's usb which isn't ideal either. Also it seems to block the HDD and WIFI leds, which isn't too good but it isn't like it hurts anything but simply makes it a pain. My biggest concern with this one foremost is that I've only ever seen them on eBay and there are tons of them from tons of different sellers which seems sketchy.
Another thing is Ive heard a lot of rumors about intercoolers voiding the PS3's warranty:
(safety and support pdf file, page 14 item number 2)
THIS WARRANTY SHALL ALSO BE VOIDABLE BY SCEA IF (1) SCEA REASONABLY BELIEVES THAT THE PS3 SYSTEM HAS BEEN USED IN A MANNER THAT WOULD VIOLATE THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF A SEPARATE END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT FOR THE SYSTEM SOFTWARE; OR (2) THE PRODUCT IS USED WITH PRODUCTS NOT SOLD OR LICENSED BY SCEA (INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, NON-LICENSED GAME ENHANCEMENT DEVICES, CONTROLLERS, ADAPTORS AND POWER SUPPLY DEVICES).
There's nothing on the manuals or warnings on the intercooler products themselves about the warranty being voided, and Sony hasn't publicly announced anything along that subject so I have no clue.
Well u r rite u dont need one the ps3 works well without it and its only where people sit them that causes them to overheat. Anyway lol the best option is the first nico intercoller
I know its about where its positioned and all that, but some people really don't have a choice of a good position, and heatwaves sure don't help things. They may not be entirely necessary but if there's anything that will help my PS3 do its job better I'd be more than happy to get one.
Ive made a thread myself about the first one and it's garbage. Ive never had a problem with mine overheating. Ive heard that the third one works good but Im not willing to sacrifice that one usb port. In my opinion you dont need one.

I don't mean to get bend out of shape but I've stated that this isn't about the relevance of using an intercooler or not it is simply about which models/designs are superior. I've changed the wording so that there wont be any discrepancies in the future.
Anyone have any information on the warranty rumor?
