You can call me thick. I have recently received a Pal Wii with Wiikey modchip. Backup games appear to function correctly but now I read about the new firmware update.
I don't actually have a wiikey setup disk and know nothing about GCOS etc.
If I update is the firmware likely to affect any backup games and the problems occurring are they matters to concern me when I don't play game cube games etc. Just play original and backup games

Well just a quick update.
It appears kids updated earlier today unbeknown to me. Now running 3.0E and all original and backup games work okay
Out of interest what is GCOS etc and setup disk used for once Wii modded?

Mine is the Japanese wii so basically the Mario striker or party won't help if you wanna update to 3.0J

I wouldnt use the F word but i agree its getting annoying no one ever talks about the games all i see on the front page is
-Help wii wont play burnt games
-New firmware stuff
-How to mod wii
-Wii no working after modding
I miss the old days in this forum (October 06- January 07) It was full of fun stuff we were talking about games etc and I had a full thread for the wii launch were we used to countdown until the wii launched in each region now all i see is mod questions.

sorry for the lang. but im just tired of all oh the LEIK OMGZ UNMODDABLE WII. becuase modding is like slaping nintendo in the face saying the wii sucks so were gonna mod it to make it beter.

DO NOT DO THIS to everyone who dosent know already just like anything that requires flashing eg. Computer MotherBoard, Symbian Phones all conasoles with firmware once it starts updating DO NO TURN IT OFF!
Can't be that bad dude, nintendo tells you themselves in the warning message to press and hold the power off button for 4 seconds if you don't want the update.

I think its safe to update my NTSC(u)Wii with the wiikey installed works fine with the new software update v3.0 installed. Just make sure you setup your WiiKey settings to what u want before updating because the wiikey setup disc doesnt work without a GCoS boot disc from the link below. After you boot up the GCoS boot disc in your Wii all you need to do is swap that with your Wiikey setup disc.

ok for us not so bright people out here is it safe to update chipped wiis if only playing wii games - no gamecube and is there any benifit from doing so Thanks

sorry i'm a bit new to this - when you said use a GCOS disc to boot first - what do you mean by that? should i just put in any gamecube game and then swap it out and put the setup disc in? sorry for the newbish question but any help would be appreciated.

im new to everything i havnt touched my wii ever since the 2.2 and i beat red steel..-_-" my wii collects dust and i finally read forums after forums that 2 updates came out that mess the wii up? like not allowing to play gamecube back-ups or wii backups..also what will happen in the future to new games? or can i still wiibrickblockerr it? like i been reading destroys the patch? um..plz help im still on 2.2U wiikey (genuine) and i recently purchased resident evil 4 with a gun so im interested in playing my wii again..just cant figure out if the update is recommended? ty

Mine is exactly same like yours with 2.2U & Wiikey and I refuse to update. Why? Because if it aint't broken, why fix it? My wii plays all the games without a tiny problem: even Mario Strikers, Big Brain Academy, Mario Paper that few people here have problems (and I don't know why) Now, without the update, I can't access to the News Channel & the Shop Channel anymore but I don't care about that. With the update, your wii won't read wiikey setup disc & roms anymore. I will only update if all the new games ask me too; otherwise, I'm happy with my Wii now and don't see any big benefits of updating

as for the new update Im istill waiting but it seems like its pretty safe from now.
as for ninjanick, if you dont like the modding scene and want to talk about games they have the perfect dforums for you @ www.Nintendo.Com as a matter of fact there is no mentioning of mod chips on that boards and thousands of users you would be in paradise! Seriously though look at all the console topics on Afterdawn and tell me where they speak about games? The modders have been here for some time and chances are its going to say that way, Honestly I think they should have a modchip section and a general section so both emphasis could be met but thats up to them in the meantime your complaints over the mass majority will go unheard.
