Hi i'm new here and this may already be a thread, if so just tell me, but anyways I just got my wiikey installed on my wii today, as many sites tell you the 3.0 update casues the wiikey setup disc not too work and this is fine because it still plays burnt games, so I downloaded metroid prime 3 and burnt it using nero at the lowest speed i could, all went according because when I put it in it automatically went to a sytem update which my friend told me happened on his un-modded wii, so my question is what is this update and will it affect my wiikey.

the update from metroid prime is basically the 3.0 update. so just accept the update, it will run to see if u have the latest version. it doesnt effect the wiikey. i did that with mine and mine still run perfectly, both original and backup. but right now for metroid prime 3, there r some glitches on it

I accepted the update but I can't run Meroid Prime 3. It hangs my WII with WIID installed. I don't know if I am the only one with this problem. I have over 10 backed up games and none have this problem. I used the same media(Taiyo Yuden) as all other back ups I have. I have to hold down the power for 10 sec to turn Wii off. It still runs my other backups after recycle the power but just not Metroid Prime 3.

it could just be your version of it, try getting another one, this one is working flawless and ive been playing for a while.

did u try buring in in a low speed like 2x cause some people could run by burning at 2x and wat program do u use to burn metroid prime 3

Yes, I always burn them using Nero at 2x speed. May be it is the image iso I got. I will try another image then since others have working MP3.

try dumping it again with rawdump and try imgburn to backup the game with 2x

always use imgburn for wii games. I've had issues with other burning progs and not a failed disc with imgburn at all.

ImgBurn is a wonderful program BUT, for this game, I'd have to say for some reason CloneCD worked better. I tested this with ImgBurn copy VS. CloneCD copy. Both set to burn at slowest setting and only the CloneCD version of MP3 worked on my wii.

imgburn has work for some people but not all. remember the wii disc drive is really picky on how its burn and wat kind of disc it uses.

I just did the update w/ Metroid Prime 3 (burned copy w/ Nero) on a WiiKey system. After the update and restart, I get the Disc Read Error. The troubling thing is that now I get that message for other burned games as well.
Any suggestions?

What firmware version did you have? 2.2? Did you go to 3.0 before/after the MP3 update?
I did the MP3 update on a 2.2 version Wii and it got REALLY messed up. DREs, movie skipping, etc.
Just wondering.

The Wii was already up to 3.0U before MP3-C. I even tried to do an update just prior to inserting it, and MP3-C still insisted on doing the update.
I did some looking around online before I proceeded with the update and saw nothing that I thought was alarming.
I've tested burned copy of Trauma Center SO, Disc read error almost immediately. I tested a burned copy of Pirates of the Caribbean.. It looked to be working until it got past the first few logo intro clips. But then again, disc read error. Both worked fine before the MP3-C update.
I still have to get ahold of a Gamecube controller. When I do, I'm going to try the new WiiKey firmware and see what happens. ( May be a few days.. )
All burned media was created using the slowest burning speed supported by my drive ( 4x ). I went back and tried another copy of MP3-C created with imgburn with the same results.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

You don't need the GC controller to do the update. Anytime it requires key input (only twice I believe), a quick press of the reset button does the same thing as GC A button.

Well, I tried 2 different burns of the WiiKey update, and neither will run in the Wii. The Wii says there's a disc error right after the 2 spinning discs on the disc channel ( where it's detecting if it's a GC or Wii disc. )
Am I missing some magic step here?
Also, if my WiiKey got hosed by the MP3-C update, anyone know what's needed to flash the thing out of the Wii? ( Rom programmer, etc? )

Another update..
I snagged a copy of the Config 1.2b disc ( 1.2 WiiKey config that boots on 3.0 Wii Update ). Booted fine, set the config on the WiiKey, and I could play the burned discs again! Still no Metroid Prime 3.. but I'm gonna try burning it on a different burner that supports slower speed.

All better now!
I upgraded to 1.9b on the WiiKey, but that didn't do anything to help. Re-burned MP3-C at 2.4x on another burner and it's ALL GOOD!!
Hope this helps someone else out there..

ikwii i just realized that i might have to updated my wii key but i hear alot of people having trouble with the new wiikey update. how is your update doing and was it worth it?

The upgrade om MP 3 is not a 3.0 firmware update. You have your information wrong.

I believe we're all just going by what our consoles tell us. If we start out w/ firmware 3.0U, and after MP3-C update, we still have 3.0U... Then that's all we can go on.
If you know more, please share.
As far as the 1.9b upgrade being worthwhile on the WiiKey, I've not noticed any real difference. But I don't play any GC games at the moment.
