Hi everyone.Great site.
Had a look but cant find an answer to my problem.
I have a psp thats a 2.71 that can be downgraded to 1.5 to play games from memory stick using devhook version 0.44.0000.
Lately i cant get any of the new releases to work so was wondering if i can upgrade to the latest dark alex firmware?
My psp already had the 1.5 downgrade on it so havent actually down/upgraded yet myself.

cheers mate.ill give it a try.
ill read the noob guide aswell but i take it i put psp from 2.71 into 1.5 mode connect to my pc and just run the 3.52winstaller?

Wait hold on, stop!
Hehe, seriously though, you're going to brick, it's a common mistake that people don't know about...
If you're still on 2.71, emulate 1.50 and then upgrade, you will brick, 100%.
You need to physically use a 2.71 downgrader first, then when you are at 1.50 you can upgrade to custom firmware.

Hope you stopped him in time Shokz.
As Shokz said you need to downgrade to 1.50 with a downgrader then upgrade to CFW.

LOL, it's not a stupid emulator thing :P
Though making DevHook for 2.71 was a mistake, some on 2.71 thought it was a great idea and have stayed totally blind to everything else, until they realised that development for it stopped and poked their heads up.
That's where the problems come in, people jump at the "new" custom firmware and think they can get by with just emulating 1.50 without reading up, thinking they know everything, then ending with a paperweight. Yes i'm stereotyping a lot of people here, and there are plenty that read and learn, but some like i said that dive straight into the deep end... and drown.

Hi.
I haven`t tried to do anything with my psp so not bricked it..yet...
Thanks to my kids taking up all my time this afternoon i havent had time to try down/up grade it.Bless em!
I didnt realize my psp hasnt already been downgraded.
Its a 2.71 but if i hold the power botton up when i switch it off then when i switch it on again its in 1.5 version and i have to use devhook to load games in.

Not my fault, he said it backwards!!! He did say he was going to go from 2.71 to 1.50 "mode" with DevHook...

But I read the above post and was thinking the same thing that Shokz was thinking.
So if your on 1.50 offical firmware then yes you can update to 3.52 M33 then 3.52 M33-4.

never mind it's all sorted now lol,if he had have came back and said he was bricked because i gave him some bad info i would of sent him my pandora battery and magic stick so he would of been downgraded one way or another lol.i'm just glad he's got kids lol

This means it is a PSP with 2.71 firmware that can be downgraded. So more then likely you have a PSP that has 2.71 firmware.
When you turn on the PSP (without loading devhook) what does the system settings say the firmware is?
If it says 2.71 then you need to go HERE and downgrade your PSP to 1.50. look under the 2.71 downgrading section.
You will need to figure out if you have a TA-82 or higher Motherboard or not and choose the corresponding 2.71 downgrader.

I think it must be a 1.5.
I took out the umd and even took the battery off and when i switched on my psp it was in 1.5 mode.
Usually if i try to load a game from my mem card and it doesnt work it goes to 2.71 mode and i have to hold the power button in to switch off and go back to 1.5.
Sorry for any confusion
