In my opinion, the Ps3 has not been hacked yet, not because of it's secrurity strenght, but because the price to play pirated games basically half the price of hyped games. This is a very basic caluculation:
- A bluray burner costs around 200-$300 (say $250 for a decent one).
- A blank Verbatim bluray costs around: $25
- Good games (eg. GTA IV) cost: $60.
- A modchip should cost around $50.

Assuming u'd burn 100 games in ur burner (there are tons of shovelware in the ps3 by the way, so one wont be burning Hulk kind games in a $25 disk).

This makes a pirated game cost basically 30$. Personnally id rather get 1 original game rather than 2 pirated games (and most people I know agree with this, as original are more resistant to hard conditions than burnt disks).
Hence there is not really a market for chips so far.
As far as I rememeber, it's the low price of media and burners that made ps2 and xbox chips popular. U can also see it in the WII, the modchip/homebrew scene is very alive because it uses regular DVDs and regular burners.
What do you think guys?
for the Nth time...
if modding becomes an option,
they will be able to load iso's of a hardrive:

$100 super size harddrive.
$5 overnight rental

and jobs done...

@biggo: again already been mentioned a zillion times.

1) the iso's are there for when backups can be played.
2) aleks is a big fat lier

a litle bit annoyed,

Will you invest in a BR player to rip few good titles?

even downloading from the net is not a very feasible option; How long would it take to download a 25GB iso (or double in case of DL).
Personnaly speaking, I own a WII, ps2 + a good PC and Im really thinking hard whether to get a PS3 or XBox360 lately, (I dont like the Xbox controller), but if I ever consider getting a PS3, it'll be mainly with the intent to play only original games (in order to avoid the frustration :))
you should be able to rip the game directly to the hdd if and when the mod is available..

even if it didnt, it should take me 3 hours to download a ps3 iso with my connection....
Assuming everyone is like you is a fatal mistake :) most people have lower connections than u do (as far as I see cause 25GB in three hours is basically 8 GB every hour, which means u must have a 20Mbit line) ur among the lucky few people on this world). I am the coolest among my friends and I have a 4 Mbit :)

JB PS3 FAT 160 GB/ FW REBUG 3.55 - PS3 Slim 120 GB FW 3.65 - Wii 4.2E Soft/Hard MOD W/USB Loader 250 GB - XBOX 360 PRO 250 GB - XBOX 360 XENON JTAG - PS2 V13 - DSi/Supercard DSTWO - HP Pavilion dv7 - JB Iphone 3G/FW 4.2.1

Most probably, because:
1. This thread never gets updated.
2. There is no useful info at all on here.
3. The PS3 Will not get hacked anytime in our generation...(sarcastically speaking. :)

Yes I second that ... This thread is a drop zone for people with false and or erroneous information.

I know that but the title of it was the reason it was sticked to try and stop the endless onslaught of the "omg can I downloadz ps3s gamez!@#?" threads. Putting it in there makes this thread almost useless, as they've said there really isn't any valuable information contained in this thread its just a billboard to stop people from asking stupid questions.

FFS

1) as you have already been told before, if there is any updates, here will be one of the first places you will find out about it. And there is nothing to update about.

2) there is no useful info anywhere because the ps3 hasnt yet been cracked,
thats what this thread is for.

if you still feel the same way then i suggest that you unsubscribe and dont post here again.

as a side note i dont think anybody should post here unless they actually have any sort of an update regarding a modchip or the progress towards a modchip etc.

and YES WE KNOW that blueray burners are going to cost an arm and a leg.
YES WE ALSO KNOW that there are regular firmware updates etc
YES WE ALSO KNOW that they have added solid security this time round.
and YES WE ALSO KNOW the other regular mundane info that people get pleasure in posting here.
WE KNOW!

im sorry for the rant but it pisses me off when some idle fool posts about some nonsense, which means that there are also multiple replys to their post and it floods my inbox with messages which make me think 'hmm has it been cracked yet?' but when i log onto AD its the same characters saying that blueray burners are too expensive blah blah thatS why ps3 hasnt yet been hacked blah blah

thanks for the advice but we want to know about PROGRESS!

it was much better with the weekly update telling me that person X has done X.

again sorry for the rant but its gotta be done,
regards,
Mubs

I have read in the website of Game Copy Pro saying that their software can be used to backup all console games including ps3. They have specific steps for each console which will be provided only if we buy the official version. Is this true? Has anyone checked this before. If so please let me know if this just another shit that is there on the net.

Just to let you all know, I have a friend who mod's consoles, and has rang me this morning saying he can now do PS3's, and it will cost £150?

Does this seem like news as I haven't heard anything through this site?!

Also note that there is a difference between backing up a game and actually playing the backup on a console.

So bacially that program will copy your game but wont let you play it on a console.

I think people (hackers) are individually hacking the ps3 and playing backups, but they are keeping it to themselves, which is the smart thing to do, this way sony is not aware and wont mess things up with their precious little useless updates.

Doesn't this go against the hackers' informal code?

Hi guys. It seems we are finaly getting homebrew on PS3.

Look at this: http://www.ps3hax.net/announcement/5752-...unched-xmb.html

They launched java homebrew from XBM. And it is confirmed as ps3hax is a reputable site.
Hooray!

Its not really a step closer.. its actually a step sideways.. Its been there and was put there intentionally. I believe Sony would have already took every idea you and I are already thinking and patched them..

I was told that there is always a way to play homebrew and that it was a matter of time. Looks like Sony is gonna win this 1. Hope i'm wrong but its not looking too good.
