I heard from more than one source that the ps3 can be somehow modified to play ps2 non original discs. Can anyone confirm this !!

I read the PS3 Swap Switch before posting here, cuz i actually didnt understand anything about it, cuz im not very femiliar with PS3, and at the end of the post, when all steps are done, he says: Quote:

and from what i know, the ps3 is already support original PSx games if they are original, and i heard they can be modified to also play duplicated games..

The swap switch tutorial at the top of the page. That is the only way to play ps1 and ps2 backups. Ps3 backups are not playable at this time.

Anything you see on youtube is fake as it pertains to the ps3 unless it's the swap switch or that crazy "cut a hole in my playstation and use swap magic" crap. I feel safer with the swap switch then I do with swap magic.

According to what I was reading, PS3 firmware 1.90 has already an iso loader for backups, so you just put the disk inside and it will read it.

Man since I posted, my brother took the PS3 to play with his friends, he left it unplug and I havent been able to do it...
I saw it on youtube and have been looking, what I learnt is that... some of the games are formatted in a way that the PS2 and PS3 will not notice that they are DVDs burnt, so what I am looking around is a way to burn them, I made a copy of Marvel vs Capcom 2, they SAY 1.90 has the iso loader, DONT know and I will test it as soon as my brother connects the PS3, I am a lazy dude!

Theres no way to burn a game to a DVD in any format that the PS3 will play, without using the Swap Switch method previously mentioned. Look at the very centre of any retail disc, there will be a barcode and heaps of other crap printed around it. Its one of the oldest forms of copy protections dating back to the days of PS1 and maybe further, without that info the game will not load. Using the Swap Switch loads a legit game BCA (Burst Cutting Area, name of barcode area) then switches the disc without the PS1/2/3 knowing it, making it think its still the proper game.
PS3 games no doubt have loads of other types of Protection AS WELL as what Ive already mentioned.
Also no working ISO Loaders have been released yet, when they are the news will be everywhere.

yup, you have the point, anyways I spent a couple of hours yesterday playing with the PS3, I was able to find online a TIFF exploit, you copy a picture .tif to the memory try to view it and it will never load, then you play a game, it will freeze, I am stuck at that point, as swapping the game only gives an error code... I hope they can come up`with something really good, cause it seems for other players the exploit works and they are able to swap discs with no problem over the system and play the back ups of PS2 and PSX by only preloading 1 game using the exploited tiff file and then putting th eother one without the swap technique.

you cannot play backups without the swap switch method!
No iso loader, No custom firmware, No elf files and No tiff exploits!
unless you've got a disc pressing factory in your back garden and the master disc.

Elf files can be played if you have swap magic coder. Also someone over at ps3hax.net has learned that you can do the swap without the switch or swap magic. You have to leave the top of the playstation off, insert an original ps1 or ps2 backup, let it load then do the swap with a backup.

True spent all night checking, ps3hacks found out by Dr Woogie, he did the swap without the switch and nothing else, as well the swap magic I have been looking for one to work it out, the tiff files seems pretty interesting will work it out tonight, but need some DVD copies, i will make them tonight as well.

Tiff exploit has its lacks STILL, almost there, expecting some way to do it... now for the SWAP MAGIC 3.8 I have comments on it working, I need to look up the ISO and download it, so I can use them, I hope they work... I am researching on the PSP PSX convertion to try to use it to do it on the PSX to PS3 gaming or PS2 to PS3 via the HD, it sounds fairly interesting, any help will be appreciated.

I thought of making a fliptop cover for the PS3,but never could get a PS3 shell to make it.I would use my own,but they are hard to find and if I screw it up it would do me no good.I tried buying a broken PS3 to use the shell off of it from ebay,people on here,etc...I guess the only way you are going to find a PS3 shell is if you buy a broken PS3 for half the price of a PS3 or just go buy a brand new one.I know it would work,and I have background knowledge CAD work on the design everything that can get it done except another PS3 shell.Although I hate to use my own shell to mess with it I might end up messing with it.I emailed XCM the company that makes cases for consoles and asked them if they are going to create a replacement case for the PS3.I got no response back from them and I guess they don't have any plans on producing them.

swap magic: it did work on the ps2 but sony got smart and released a firmware that blokes it from working, they will do that with every firmware, they will try block peoples hacks, exploits and wat eva we can cook up because there crafty fuker's.
tiff exploit: it has been tweaked a bit since it was first released but there was a rumore of it bootin ps1 backs ups, there was also a video of it but people though it was fake. but the tiff exploit will lead to good discovers coz if it can boot a ps3 game and allow you to swap it with no prob's then it should lead to other things, because whe you put the ps3 game in, in comes up with the game name and wateva soo think about it.
cutsom firmware & iso loader: there WILL be 1 oneday coz if they gcracked it on the psp just like with the iso loader... then there will b a iso loader AND custom firmware, the question is when?
the swap switch: its a very good method of bootin backups but it involves cuttin wires and solderin wires sooo u jus may do something wrong and fuk up your ps3.
drwoogies method of bootin backups: its a very simple method but can get abit tricky for some, and if u aint opend up ur ps3 and ur warrenty sticker is still there then i wouldnt bover, i aleady av open up mine soo it dnt matter for me. by the way how many years do you get on your ps3 warrenty?
soo in conclusion the ps3 is getin different ways on bootin backups but its jus takin time, but we will b able to do it properly 1 day

I know it will take time, I have time, and I will rather stop burning my PS2 Games on DVDs, anyways bluray technology is not 100% at our hands, we got the players, but we did not get the Burners, so as soon as the burners get as cheap as $100 then we should worry about getting the PS3 to read backups and we will be good to go.
Anyways in the meantime if someone gets a way to boot a PS2 Burnt DVD or CD, let me know, and everybody I am waiting for someone to get the TIFF exploit on the next level, after accessing the disk and getting blank the coding should pop out the disk and put in a new without touching the eject button, that will be a great improvement... anyways lets just hope it works like that.
