S3HaX member TicHack has just stumbled upon something interesting. He found a way to boot up a DVD under the OS and after viewing his .TIFF image he can take the hard drive OFF and still continue to use PS3 firmware v1.93.

How to do this:

* Download and place TIFF file on a USB/flash drive.
* View the TIFF on the PS3 and copy it to HDD, it should show up as CORRUPTED DATA.
* Remove the PS3's HDD at this point and view the TIFF image again.
* You should now be able to go to Game Data Utility - Save Data Utility and I can use the TRIANGLE (e.g Eject Disc,Copy etc) also plug in External Devices and so ON.

Although this isn't a ground shattering discovery it still is pretty neat, give this method a try and post your results!
