Are you definitely using the correct image for your Wii Region? If so, then try the official method:

1. Download 1.3 config file from wiikey.cn
2. Extract into c:\Wiikey (for example)
3. Go to your command prompt and navigate to the 1.9b folder.
(Start/Run and type 'cmd'. Then type 'CD C:\Wiikey'
4. Type 'filechop.exe bootdisc.xx.iso 1459978240'(where xx is your region).
5. Burn resized image onto DVD-R. If you use DVD+R, make sure your DVD burner is set to book-type DVD-ROM.

You shouldn't need to use a GCOS disk as the latesst firmware/config works around the issue. I would try the firmware update again first....

Yes - there's a remote chance it didn't take.

If it still doesn't work, create a gcos disk (or download a GC Multigame disc) and then select the option to change disc. Insert your config disc and browse to run the DOL file.

I'm at work at the moment, but don't go to the trouble of downloading a huge DVD9 - look for any GC multidisks. They should all have an option on the menu to insert another disk.

Once inserted and read, you'll see the contents of the config disc. Look through the folders for a file ending in DOL and select it - it should run the config program.

Hey, yeah I'm also getting the error message.

What I did is put the 1.9 update in and that all worked fine. Then I put in the config and it came up normally, I could change the settings. I went to the snes part of the disc and it came up all fuzzy, then eventually popped up. I don't have a controller so I turned off the Wii as not much else was any use.

Since then I've had the error message. I re-did the update 1.9 but that didn't do any good. Would love some help please. I'm new to the Wii and this software but I have a fair idea what is going on with all the stuff.

Thanks

Hi

I can now confirm that the 1.3 config disk won't read directly in a Wii updated to v3.1. Here's how to use it:

You'll need:

Gamecube controller
GCOS boot disk

1. Download any GC Multi-disk, or just download 'make-multiv3' and create a GCOS boot disk.
2. Boot it up in the Wii and you'll be presented with two options - select 'Boot DVD'.
3. It will ask you to enter a DVD and press A to continue. Eject your disk and insert your 1.3 config disk. Press the A button on your gamecube controller.
4. It should read the disc and present a list of files/folders. Highlight 'bootldr.dol' and press A.
5. The config disc menu should appear.

This 100% works as I carried it out on a 3.1 Wii about an hour ago!

Keep an eye on this page:

http://wiki.gbatemp.net/index.php?title=...28USA.29_to_PAL

It's the best resource for seeing which NTSC games work on PAL consoles. You may want to be bold and try games which didn't work on the previous WiiKey firmware to see if the 1.9b makes a difference.

it worked perfectly i'm playing gundam japanese version right now
thanks alot!!!!
here's what we did:
1. downloaded wiikey setup v1.3 and unziped it
2. run fixsize on the command prompt to correct the size of bootdisc.us.iso file using this format: fixsize bootdisc.us.iso ..fixsize and bootdisc.us.iso are included in the wiikey setup v1.3 zip file
3. downloaded make-multiv3 and unziped it
4. copied bootdisc.us.iso file and pasted it on the same folder as the unziped make-multiv3
5. run make-multiv3 on the command prompt using this format: make-multiv3.exe output.iso USA bootdisc.us.iso. this will create output.iso file
6. burned output.iso to verbatim dvd-r using nero at speed 4x
7. burned bootdisc.us.iso to verbatim dvd-r using nero at speed 4x
8. booted wii with the output.iso disk
9. followed above instruction from steps2 thru 5 from Xb0xGuru

we cannot promise that this will work for everybody but it definitely worked for us 100%.

thanks to Xb0xGuru without you we would still be making coasters out of the bad bootdiscs.

Because technically the config disk IS a 1.3 disk, you should be able to use make-multiv3 with the ISO and create it all on the one disk. I haven't done this myself, but it should work. The only reason I did it my way is that I've a few created multi GC disks and didn't need to mess around with creating one!

For anyone still not being able to burn the config or region disc here is how (using firmware 3.1U, E or J) Need Gamecube Gamepad!

1. Download from wiikey.cn Wiikey update 1.9b and Config disc 1.3, use WinRAR to extract it.

2. Download MultiGame ISO Creator v3.2.4F, use WinRAR to extract it.

3. Do not use filechop or fixsize.

4. Go to where you extracted the MultiGame ISO Creator v3.2.4F and open MultiGameISOCreator.exe

5. Now click on Add ISO and add the bootdisc(US for north amercia, Pal for mainly Europe, and Jap for most of asia) image of wiikey 1.9b then again click on add iso and add the config 1.3 disc (same region stuff).

6. Now that you've added config disc 1.3 it'll say config 1.2 just ignore it.

7. Now we are not yet ready to burn the Iso (or gcm) file. Look at the top right corner see region select your region.

8. Now click on Create MultiGame Iso and save it wherever you want to(advanced stuff: to change the file extension write your file name then .iso or .gcm i used .iso).

9. Now burn it with IMGBurn (or whatever you burn with) at 4x speed no you dont need a dvd-r you either use dvd+r or dvd-r no change book type to do (tested!)

10. Now that its done burning you must be wondering my wii wont read this it wont reconize it, it doesnt have enough memory on it well test it your self! If its not working then try burning with Nero (its really weird if it doesnt work).

11. Now this is the last step!...............enjoy playing updated and you're done.

Any Questions? then put a message on the fourm or quote.

This part has already been explained and happens if you DON'T use filechop! The GC image must be of a certain size and while Nero does this for you automatically it's best not to rely on it.

I tried the methods described by Kev96 and xboxguru with no success. Can someone confirm if my cheap staples dvd-r or sony dvd-r work with the wii? I'm sure theres a list of compatible dvd-r somewhere but i can't find it. I have a d2b chip so its either my cheap dvds or bad soldering which i doubt. I got verbatims and tanyo yudens on the way.

Have you managed to even get backups working on these DVD-R? The Wii can be picky, but it should at least pick up a game.

As game images are correctly sized when created, it's a good place to start.

i cant get wii sports to work so i didnt even bother with a back up of a game. I just assumed i needed to update the wii key and use config 1.3 before i could do that. For the record my wii is at version 2.3 . I dont know if that matters

oh well the fact that your Wii is version 2.3 changes a lot of things. I'm not 100% sure but most likely the reason your Wii cant run cheap discs (or config and upgrade disc) is because your Wii has firmware 2.3. For anyone who has this problem if you !ARE! running WiiKey as your modchip then i assure you that it is safe to upgrade to 3.1 (which is the latest firmware). Perhaps thats the reason the your Wii wont read other discs including the upgrade discs. And if you're !NOT! running WiiKey, then you should check other sites and forums, post another message on this forum, start a new thread, or talk to the person who installed your your chip (unless it was you). And im not sure if the config discs and upgrade discs are compatible with your firmware. This is me speaking though maybe Xb0xGuru might have some other theory.
