If Wii Sports won't even work then it could be that you haven't reassembled the Wii correctly! Remove the drive unit an check the FFC (ribbon) cable is connected properly. Above all else, your originals should work all the time.

As long as you haven't bridged or damaged any of the other points and components on the drive, you should still be able to read originals.

Uhm, I have this other problem, when I load the 1.9 update, that smexy butt shows up and all. And I press A to test flash. After it the counter reaches 100% it takes a few seconds and then tells my Testing flash failed.
I don't know what to do, it does it with the disc I used filechop.exe on, and the one I didn't. I also can run config 1.3 normally and my current firmware is 3.0E.

I'm getting the disk read error for the 1.9b update disk. So far I have my wii updated with latest nintendo firmware. And I've tried the nero method of burning, the padded method, and the multidisc method, with and without padding to 1.4gb.
Is it possible the dvd I'm using isn't proper. I'm using mini dvd-r's that I've used to backup some of my gc games that have worked in the past (not since a nintendo update).
Or can I use full 4.7gb verbatime dvd-rs?

The firmware update disc definitely works with the 3.1 Wii firmware, as I did one a few days ago. You don't need to use Mini DVD-Rs - I use Arita DVD-R as the Wii loves the Ritek dye!

I had the same problem as you earlier this morning, Sac123. I think it's down to the media that you use. I used a HP DVD-R to begin with, burning with ImgBurn which didn't work (Error Read) then tried my luck with an Imation DVD-R for both the Update and the 1.3 Config Disc and both worked fine.
I would take Xb0xGuru advice and use DVDRs with Ritek, Verbatim and Arita seem to be a popular choice from the threads I've read on AD.

Ok, so I have both Vervatim and Imation disks. I've burned the 1.9b image after filechoping it to 1.4gb and yet still when I insert the disks it says read error.
I've also tried the multigame iso method, but still no luck. Does the fact that I have a launch wii the culprit.. I've ran out of things to try.. thanks for the help anyway guys.

This question is directed to KEV96 but if anyone can help i would appreciate it. I have followed the directions using MultiGame ISO Creator and did everything you said. I can not get the wii to read the disk. Is it suppose to be a certain size(what is the size you got), certain disk, do i change any specific settings on imgburn? I cant get my wii to read anything other than original games. I am almost sure the wiikey is installed correctly. Just please help me. Any ideas?
Originally posted by Kev96: For anyone still not being able to burn the config or region disc here is how (using firmware 3.1U, E or J) Need Gamecube Gamepad!
1. Download from wiikey.cn Wiikey update 1.9b and Config disc 1.3, use WinRAR to extract it.
2. Download MultiGame ISO Creator v3.2.4F, use WinRAR to extract it.
3. Do not use filechop or fixsize.
4. Go to where you extracted the MultiGame ISO Creator v3.2.4F and open MultiGameISOCreator.exe
5. Now click on Add ISO and add the bootdisc(US for north amercia, Pal for mainly Europe, and Jap for most of asia) image of wiikey 1.9b then again click on add iso and add the config 1.3 disc (same region stuff).
6. Now that you've added config disc 1.3 it'll say config 1.2 just ignore it.
7. Now we are not yet ready to burn the Iso (or gcm) file. Look at the top right corner see region select your region.
8. Now click on Create MultiGame Iso and save it wherever you want to(advanced stuff: to change the file extension write your file name then .iso or .gcm i used .iso).
9. Now burn it with IMGBurn (or whatever you burn with) at 4x speed no you dont need a dvd-r you either use dvd+r or dvd-r no change book type to do (tested!)
10. Now that its done burning you must be wondering my wii wont read this it wont reconize it, it doesnt have enough memory on it well test it your self! If its not working then try burning with Nero (its really weird if it doesnt work).
11. Now this is the last step!...............enjoy playing updated and you're done.
Any Questions? then put a message on the fourm or quote.

I am having this exact same problem. It gets to 100% then says to "check my connections". I'm not sure what that means. My backups work fine.
I have the 1.9 update, and 1.3 config disk on one disk, using the GCOS multi tutorial in this thread. I seem to be able to toggle the options on and off in the 1.3 disk, but when I go to the SNES emulator, I get a fuzzy screen with colorful pixels. No clue what's going on...

So when it comes to having a Gamecube controller, does it matter if its a Wavebird? Don't think the wireless would matter, but just checking.
thanks

My backups won't work though, just gives me an error telling me to eject, or it won't read at all.

If backups aren't working and the programming is failing, then the chip isn't installed correctly.
Guys - don't just use solder to bridge the points on the WiiKey as it's really untidy and can cause no end of problems. Use Kynar wire and bridge the points with this. Place the wire against the point on the chip and the point on the PCB and heat it up. It should melt the solder in both places and make a nice clean connection.

I guess the chip is installed correctly, because now I can play Super Mario Strikers backup. And it was done by some company >.<
Super paper mario and Metroid Prime 3 still won't work and give me Errors though.

Some people in this topic said that it's supposed to do that, and it does save your settings. Mine puts it back on off each time as well, no big deal.

This is absolutely right - the settings will always say the same when you initially go into the config screen, but change ok when you save the settings.

I am still having trouble getting my wii to read any type of back up. It still reads the originals fine, but wont pick up the config disc 1.3, updated disc 1.9 or any backup games. I have read forums for over 8 hours now and tried several methods and am now at a dead end. I am almost positive that the solder is good. It was done by someone with 20 years of soldering exp. Any ideas will help. I dont know if the disk need to be a certain size, certain type of media,i feel i have done everything. ANy ideas? THank you.

You mentioned that you could play Mario Strikers Charged earlier - has that now stopped working?

No that was someone else. My wii only reads originals, i havent been able to get it to read any burned disc. Sorry, my mistake!
Do you know anyone else with a modded Wii who can test your disks, or at least lend you a known working disc just so you can eliminate the possibility of you not writing them properly?

No everybody that i know has never even heard of a wiikey or modchip. If i cant figure it out maybe you can send me the one you made and i will pay for shipping, the cost of cd, and even pay for your hassle of doing it. Unless you have any other idea.

I havew the wii key and everything works fine. I do not do game cube games.
I never "flashed" my wii after the wiikey was installed. Is there any reason to do so now?
