Basically halo editions made after the 24/08/07 contain the new 65nm processor's that are made to prevent the Red Ring of Death, the Elite does not contain these new chips so basically go and look on the box to see the manufacture date. if you google it you can even find pic of the chips and how to see it through the case with a flash light.

So bottom line halo console is better built BUT on on the ones made after the 24/08/07
Yes, but the Elites were made so that the red ring error wouldn't happen. They tested, and retested, making sure that it doesn't happen, if it does, it's very rare.

I agree with what you say about the elite, im only saying the technology is better in the halo console. I have seen the red rings on the elites too it does occur but you have then question the ratio or elites to standard xbox 360's. Of course if you have sold less elites then the averages are lower. The technology is the same on the motherboard, the issue was the over heating that melts the board and makes it sag. Thats why you have the x-clamp fix out there.

Lets face it man the xbox is poor inb design.

I just got mine on sunday and the date is 2007/08/11 so dose this mean it does not have the new 65nm chip in it and i did see the new heatsink.

if you saw the new heatsink the chances are that it is. You need to find out which lot number it is. If its 734 then you are all good. it will say on your box.

This link is quiet interesting

I just look at my halo 3 box the lot # is 0732 and also it says team FDOU so i guess no 65nm chip.

To date, there's no reliable conformation that these are really 65mn processors. New heatsinks don't mean anything. And the photo proof of the H3LE using less power doesn't necessarily prove it's due to new processors.

Forget the heatsink they have looked under it and its the new processor, check on xbox-scene there are pics of that too.

@splman

Dude that sucks can you not return it and tell them you want the one with better technology, i reckon if you put up a fight and make a fuss they will give in, after all you would be making a good point, why settle for something that is not as good

I've been following it from day one. http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=623700 The only conformation is other posters saying stuff like "ya, that's got to be the 65nm". Now, I'm not saying it's definately not the new processor, but it would be nice if some site actually tested the processor or got some inside info.

Believe me... I want it to be the new processor. I'm right on the verge of going out and trying to find an Elite with the 735 or higher lot number and picking it up. I know it's the Halo's which have been thought to have the new processors, but I don't want that green/orange. I'd be willing to pick up an Elite and tear into it and check.

All I want is the hdmi and black (and of course the new processors). I already have a black XMC case, but they're all cheap quality. I'd swap the Hitachi/Benq with my ms28 and just spoof it.

But instead of running out right now, I'm going to wait until the end of October. It's been said C4E is waiting until after the fall update to release the Benq Xtreme firmware and maybe we will have more news about the processors by then.

Looks like we didn't have to wait long for some new news on the processors. So as it stands right now, it's only the 65nm cpu we're getting.

Quote:
Jasper is the code name for the next motherboard for the Xbox 360. It will becoming next August, in time for next year's holiday season. Jasper is going to have a 65-nanometer graphics chip from ATI Technologies, as well as smaller memory chips. That isn't much information, but it's enough to tell us about their cost-reduction plan. If you ask me, it's a bit of a slow pace.

I don't know why it will take Microsoft essentially three years to cost reduce the size of the graphics chip through a manufacturing shrink. It doesn't seem like they're in a hurry to launch a redesigned Xbox 360 graphics chip, considering that Intel introduced its first 65-nm chips a long time ago. ATI uses TSMC to make its chips out of Taiwan, and TSMC hasn't been the fastest at moving to 65-nm manufacturing. I understand these tasks are difficult and they take a lot of engineering resources. Microsoft has had to divert a lot of engineers to debugging problems with Xbox 360 reliability. Even so, you would think that they would have moved faster, since the move to 65-nm graphics chip will likely be one of the best things they can do to improve the reliability.

Here's something that Xbox 360 buyers will want to know. Both Falcon and its predecessor Zephyr (used in the Xbox 360 Elite) have different thermal solutions than the original Xbox 360. You've seen the heat sinks in the cut-out photos posted elsewhere. The Microsoft engineers believe those heat sinks will be sufficient as a solution for keeping Xbox 360s from overheating. From their point of view, you don't have to wait until Jasper to get a reliable machine.

I believe IGN carried out a review too they seem to be pretty reliable and think its the 65nm processor, they even quoted microsoft in there about the manufacture of the processor in canada. But yeah i hear what you are saying. You are right patience is the best thing right now.
