dvd shrink problems with analysing!

I am having some recent problems with dvd shrink which has started to freeze when analysing right at the start. Its never done this before and at first i thought it might be the disk i was using.

Has anyone ever had this problem? i have tried reinstalling it, but it still does not work!

It has also come up with the error message 'copy protetion in place can not continue'

my dvd writer is a hp300e external and iam running xp. (backed up over 40 dvd's with no prob's!!!!!!!)

can any1 please help?

Sounds strange?
Is your HP300e and USB2 or Firewire?

Also, try using DVD Decrypter and see if it can rip the DVD.

its running through firewire at the moment, but ive also tried usb2 and that does not work either.

Ive tried it again this morning and it came up with error message 'can not copy due to disk being copyright protected'!!!!!

It is nothing to do with your DVD Writer, it is the DVD disc. Most new DVD discs are copy protected using the CSS encryption.

Your drive carn't read the DVD because of the protection. Try AnyDVD which will remove the protection and solve this problem :D

tommuffin, you could try playing the disc for a few seconds using your software player, than start DVD Shrink and "Open" the disc before closing/stopping your software player.

I had this happen to me and all because my dvd writer was set to region 2 and i was trying to copy a region 1 disc

Given them ideas a try but it's still freezing when analysing. Maybe its a problem with xp cause ive now also tried dvd ripper and it also freezes during the rip process! like ive said before ive done loads of dvd's before without any problems but now i cant back up a single copy!!!!!!!

Not sure what to do now! maybe try a different computer?

Anyway any further ideas will be very grateful...

Put your DVD Writer into your PC on the Secondary Master IDE cable and see if it does it.

Iam working from a laptop so not sure how to do that, could you possibly let how to do this?

I hope that this is the problem and i can continue to back up my collection! Also rang HP consumer help line but they were NO help whatsoever telling me that i should not be using third party software....!
