Hello All -

I tried to update my NTSC Wii with the latest Firmware (1.9g). I heard some people had success doing it, so I wanted to give it a shot. I never updated the firmware before. After running the update, (which went fine, got to a 100% with no error), I restarted the Wii. The Wii no longer recognizes any backups; GC or Wii, but it does see original games (like Wii Sports). I couldn't run any setup disk because once again I get the error that the disk is unreadable. All the backups worked before the update, but not after. I tried running the recovery disk (from WiiKey site) but it didn't fix anything. Without ripping the Wii open, are there any suggestions? Should I try to reburn the recovery disk? Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks in Advance;

J

remove the cmos battery and the power and try again.

minec did this with 1.9b and 1.9g but it maybe the 3.1 wii firmware or a combination of the 2.

mine will not play any kind of backup gcos or wii, until i do a hard reset then its ok for a while.

Mine was updated with the smg update though so i cannot reset my settings.

when it works though it works until the next power cycle.

Reburned the Wiikey recovery disk, followed directions, popped in the original setup disk (1.1), still can't read it.

Opened up the wii, all the connections look solid. I'll check it with a multimeter in a few days. I was going to check between the keys and the legs on the IC (if it works, It will verify the solder job is good).

after you finish updating with 1.9b u should use 1.2 config to turn region free on, and then u can use 1.3 config to do w/e u want. after taht ur backups should work, hope this helps!

None of the config disks are seen by the Wii. I know they use GC, but once again, burned media isn?t being recognized anymore. I picked up a multi-meter and I?m going to do a continuity check tonight to make sure all the wires are still good. I installed my WiiKey in May and this is the first and only problem I have had with it.

Checked all the connections this morning using a multimeter, all the points were good. I checked from the wiikey chip to the main chip for four of the connections and two from the board to the C2. All were good. None of the connections were shorted to each other. Also, When I got the WiiKey I made sure it was an original, not a clone. I guess the WiiKey finally died or the WiiKey update (1.9g) killed it. It was weird that the recovery disk was useless. I burned the recovery disk two different times using IMGburn on DVD-R and followed the directions to the letter. Oh well...

The Wii version was 3.10U or whatever the last update was (I believe it was 3.1).

I've never heard of a WiiKey dieing like that, but it was strange that after I updated it to 1.9g (from 1.2) it would no longer read backups. Even strange was the fact that the recovery disk wouldn't reflash the chip. I burned the recovery twice at two different speeds and still no-go. I used the Maxwell DVD-R with IMGburn which up until this, I had no problems with.

I'm most likely going to have to order another WiiKey. I know a lot of places got raided a few months ago, so I'm going to have to make sure I'm ordering from a reputable place that won't forward my address to the local authorities as part of a plea-bargain. (I jest of course).

Sounds like you're experiencing the exact same thing as I am. I updated to 1.9b and now the system won't recognize any discs that aren't legit game discs. I bought my Wii on release day and had my WiiKey installed at the start of summer 07. Every game I burned worked perfectly and now I'm not sure what to do from here. Going to try the GCOS disk tonight to try and turn on region override after I pick up a GC controller, but since the WiiKey doesn't read anything burned I don't know how this will work... :(

I'm thinking our only option is to install new WiiKey's and update them version by version, making sure to set region override to on. This sucks :(

Could also be because we updated to the latest Wii firmware before updating the Wiikey to 1.9b.

I saw some cases where they upgraded from 1.2 to 1.9g and it worked. It was on one of the other threads.

Tried v.1.2 and GCOS, neither worked cuz the system won't read the discs...

Leaning towards ordering a new WiiKey at this point.

Just a thought

The directions say:

- Switch on Wii and eject any disc in drive
- Insert recovery disc and reset Wii
- Wait for at least 3 minutes. There will *not* be any sign that the wiikey is recovering, and the recovery disc will not appear in Wii menu.
- Power off the Wii and switch it back on again. wiiKey should now have recovered its firmware, and EEPROM will be restored to default settings.

I saw on other post that you should select the disk channel and then wait three minutes (vs. waiting three minutes on the channel screen). Does it make a difference? If so I might still have a good wiikey. Has anyone had a successful re-flash? I'm unable to test it myself.. (My Wii is unavailable till next month).

My Wiikey worked for two days then died after the 1.9g upgrade.
Furthermore, the dvd drive does not work properly after that. It automatically reject any disc until reset.
After I unsolder the wiikey the drive works fine.
Seems I have to buy a new wiikey now!

I had the same symptoms as you after an extension lead blew and tripped my house power. The only way I got the wiikey to work again was by using the 1.9b recovery disk and then reconfiguring using the v1.3 config disk.

Hey guys,
Soooo the same thing just happened to me today. Came home and tested some backups, then I decided to update to 1.9g and next thing I know none of my backups work. Originals work though. Currently my system is at 3.0u. I tried burning the 1.2 boot disc from the wiikey site but it wouldn't read either. I'm currently burning some other 1.2wiikey bootdisc I found on a wii forum in which they stated that "1.2 wiikey for 3.0u". So I suppose using the 1.2 provided by wiikey doesn't work for 3.0u? After that hopefully it will work or if not then it's back to the drawing board. If I find anything that works I will post the results.

Same thing here, after updating using the 1.9g, none of my backups work. This is very frustrating. If anyone has a fix, let me know please.
