I have a Sony 50" 720p tv (Kfe-50A10) and an upconverting
dvd player that gives a great picture.If I play a STANDARD
dvd on a PS3 will I see much of a difference in the PQ
between the PS3 and the upconverting dvd player?

Also I have some standard dvd region 2 disks from England,
will the PS3 play them?

I heard that the PS3 will upscale DVD's on it! I think someone at Best Buy told me that, so I don't think it's true (because all Best Buy employees up here... ARE IDIOTS!)!

you probably won't notice a difference. the ps3 DOES upscale standard DVDs.

You should use the best possible connection for upconversion (HDMI), and since the PS3 can do it too, just use the HDMI to connect the PS3 to the TV.

There is a difference but not enough to warrant buying a whole new player. BUT, if you already have the PS3, you don't need to worry about it.

The PS3 will only play DVD discs from the region it was bought in.

There are ways around that such as making a backup and removing all the region info.
