PS3 BR DVD Broken Need Help!

hi! my ps3's Blu ray dvd stuffed up, (i have the 60gb version) when i tried to put in a disc it makes a clunking noise and wont take it in. So i sent it to sony and they sent it back to me claiming it had a liquid damage.. i donno how or when it happened.. so i bought a new BR Dvd drive, i think it was off the new 40GB model. when i put it in my 60gb, it would take the disc in and spin it, but nothing appears on the ps3? the DVD drive works on 40gb PS3. it looks exactly the same as my broken one.

any help would be appreciated.

because Sony are bastards and wont fix my ps3, bcoz there is a lil bit of rust in it. and they are claiming water got in there bla bla bla. i told em the whole thing would of fried if water got in there. but right now only the DVD drive is broken.

The Best Way to fix your xbox is to buy a Ps3!

Thats kinda disturbing to know.
First there is dust that voids the warranty, now it is rust... Sony indeed are bastards...
I would write to Sony CEO and explain my problem and how I feel. I bet you'll get a new PS3, if not post this on all major console forums.
A guy had a hassle because he had dust in PS3 (there is dust in each piece of gear with fans). They told him that dust voids the warranty which turned out not to be true in the end.

Everybody is saying that 30% of MS xbox breaks down, yeah it does indeed, but at least when it does MS repairs it, no question asked.

And yeah only a tiny fragment of a percetage of PS3s break down, but when Sony should repair the damn suckers they just make up an excuse about dust or rust.

Your point of view and information is so wrong it's not even funny. Do you have any proof he didn't have some sort of water damage? Is that so hard to believe that could happen? Or do you only post to to make some conspiracy theory about Sony? Your information about the dust is absolutely incorrect and baseless as the pictures of that PS3 where horrid and should not have been warrantied. As for MS and their "great" service you are wrong. There have been many people who have been turned down for things that should be under warranty but that is not the point, it shouldn't be so high of a failure percentage to begin with.

And you know why everybody has its own point of view? Because we do not all stand in the same position. Simple.
And all I was saying is that I hate corporate BS and gave the guy an advice. Many people (including myself) resolved a lot of matters by jumping the birocratic queue and just directing our problems directly to "the man in charge". Like the CEO. I for example got a Sony LCD tv that had some wierd ghosting going on. When I turned to the store they just said its all ok. I turned to Sony in my country, they said that they couldnt do anything. When I mailed three of the sony CEOs that I found adressess on web, I got a letter od apology and they resolved the matter in 1 week, with me getting a new tv (and returnig the other, but still:).

And about the rust... It can be caused and often is caused by condensation of water and not by diping the kit in sea or taking a shower with your PS3 or other kit.
Open up an old computer and I bet you'll see some spots of rust inside. I have an old pentium II thats used as a ftp server, and it has lots of rust on circuits, powwer supply and even the metal connectors of ram modules have some kind of oxidation (the green rust of copper like metals).
Was I playing with it in the rain? No, I can most certainly gurantee that the poor old maschine was never at my pool party. Nor was it swimming...

And if they made this stuff from rustfree alloys, than it would never rust in an circumstances.

SlickRoy: I still advice you to turn your problem to the highest authority, because the logic for them is that one ps3 is nothing, and a satisfied costumer is a lot. So they most probably wont complicate about giving you a new ps3.

How do i write to the CEO? i spoke to the highest position in the service center, who is a idiot.. he said on the reports that the whole console is broken? my ps3 does everything except for reading disks. and people should not be taking sides with a company, coz those bastards make million or even billions a year, replacing my ps3 wont cost much at all!

well i just think microsoft repair center was much better coz they actually fixed my xbox 360 even the sticker was damaged.

Shame on you Sony, looks like i wont be buying that Bravia TV ive been saving up for, instead i look for other brands and stay away from any sony product.

is anyone going to say how this can be fixed? sounds something more may be wrong if the new drives wont play in the 60g ps3 eventhough everything else works

maybe the 40gb and the 60gb consoles have different blu ray drives? but on the outside, the drives look exactly the same, and it fits in the same port, all the wiring is the same, i just dunno y it wont work :S

I think that all PS3 components are signed and fit together only with the original motherboard (at least so is with xbox). So you just cant take a component from one and put it in an other ps3 (even the same model).

Google up who CEOs are at Sony, than google up "name.surname@sony.com" or something like that, and you'll get the addresses. Than mail them politely, explaining whats your problem, how they turned you down and that your PS3 was never soaked with water (even if it was in reality).

And most often they just apologize to you and send you whatever you want. The logic of a CEO is much more customer oriented than a sucker at the store who tells you whatever will make you go away faster.

Travar if you would have given a true example originally (as you just did now) then that would have been understandable. But to use the Dusty PS3 and M$ fixes anything description was just not true. The point you made now makes much more sense and is more helpful as it shows great steps in how to possibly address/help the posters problem. But at the same time we still don't know how much "rust" there is (not to start anything with you SlickRoy just for discussion purposes) or how it really got there.

I really think that the problem is with your methodology for replacing the system. When I bought my system in January, the blu-ray drive stopped working on the first night. I took it back to Target to get a replacement. They were sold out so I went to another Target store in my town and got a new PS3 with no hassle.
I'm not saying that people should go scam stores just because the employees are uneducated on this stuff, but honestly, you would have saved a lot of trouble. My friend took a bricked PSP back to Walmart when he bought it at Gamestop and got a new one with no receipt, no questions asked. Sony is a last resort, go to the top only if you have to, lesson learned.

i already know that trick lols, but the problem is that the 60gb Ps3 is no longer available in Australia, and it sux, the 40gb is a piece of crap and the inside is totally different, i bought a 40gb and took the drive out of it and put my rusty one back in and refunded it lols! thats how i got the new drive, but it doesnt work :(

im gonna wait till Sony re-release the 60gb ps3 again, its true that the employees are uneducated lols, ive been scamming em for the past 2yrs, well some of em are educated lol, i work in one of those stores and doesnt give a shit bcoz its not my money.
