This happend to me and someone else i know. When my PS3 stopped reading discs i could see loads of tiny little scratches right along the centre of the disc. Have a look see if the laser has been scratching them.
Anyway upshot is that it aint over a year old yet? So it will still be under warrenty get down the shop tell them its bust and get a new one. Yu have got the reciept right?!
It happened to me. My system was a little over a month old. I contacted Sony with the phone number included in your instructions and they sent me a prepaid box to send them my system in. It took roughly 2 1/2 weeks to get a new one which was ok with me. Their tech support was really friendly.
You will need your receipt and hopefully you didn't mod your system or else you are screwed.

Wow you've got yourself into a bit of a situation now haven't you? Maybe you'll have to fly there! I can't think of anything else..
I have the same problem, my ps3 60gb UK version wont read discs. I bought it off ebay and it was advertised to have a 12 month warranty, the seller said that I can use the Paypal receipt to claim my warranty but I contacted sony and they said that I couldn't. They said that I would need the ebay seller to provide a receipt of where he got the item. The seller seems like a shop as its selling loads of the same item so they should be able to provide a receipt from their supplier shouldn't they?
Im waiting for a reply now....
Things never go right for me, about 4 of my ps2's died for no reason. I always take care of them aswell, never dropped, never dirty and they still break. My chipped PS1 is starting to pack up now aswell (randomly resets itself.)
My ps2 at the minute is ok so far... fingers crossed.
I am having the same problem also. I hope I dont have to send it in. thats a hassle in itself. But I am actually able to get the disks to read after several tries.Every since the 2.00 update and assasins creed (even after 1.10 update) I have been having this problem and it seems to get worse as time goes on. Other threads have said to delete the game saves in the game data utility folder, and do a cold boot. that worked great but only for the first couple of times. And I had to do this everytime I wanted to play assasins creed before the update. What I do is put in a normal dvd and then it reads the disk. For some reason when I put in a normal and then a blueray movie or game, the disk can be read again. Ive tried other things like setting to disk auto start, but putting in a normal dvd and then a blueray seems to work for me almost everytime. I sometimes leave my PS3 on over night and it may be on all day sometimes. Im hoping that isnt the issue considering the ps3 is suppose to be the most reliable. I hope sony doesnt give me the run around if I do have to send it in.
Is this true that you only get a year warranty with Sony? I purchased my PS3 in February from a gamestop....
