Hi Everybody
I bought PS3 when it was 1st released paid over £400.00, ever since I?ve been downloading PS3 games directly on my PS3 from the play station store paying for it, I?ve paid substantial amount of money for the games, and all the games are stored on my PS3 60 GB Internal hard drive, is there anyway I can backup these games onto my computer or an external hard drive, how can this be done?? And also I?ve seen a these torrents on Net where you can download PS3 games end play them, I?m a bit confused they seem to be all compressed (winrar) how do I transport them games on to the PS3 and play them, anybody has any ideas or have done this before. Is there a process for it? Help is much appreciated
Cheers dudes

Mate, you cant play downloaded games from torrents, if you could it would be all over the internet and here like the 360 is.

you don't really need to, your allowed to download them multiple times (theres a set limit, i forget what it is.) plus you can't.

could there have been a way to remove the HD after you get a game, then connect it to a PC somehow and get the game file onto your computer?
then transfer the file from the computer to another PS3 or megaupload or something?
even if this was possible, would the file play? (since it is, in fact, official from PSS)

Well if you knew what files are needed etc then maybe yes since its a Removable S-ATA drive anyway.

You cannot transfer a file that is over 4gb to the hardrive so there is no point unplugging the HDD...

but dude. thats only when it is having to go through the PS3.
if you take the hardrive out, manually, then what is keeping it from transferring?
it cant be something IN the HD. i mean, it lets the PSS download big files to it right?
so it must be something in the FLASH of the PS3. not the hard drive.

Downloading from PSN is different because they know the bypass codes. I read that it would take a powerful computer 23years to crack ONE code.

yeah, but i dont think a HD can have bypass codes!
how would it read it if its not hooked up to a PS3???????
the codes would have to be read by the FIRMWARE of the PS3!
am i right?
can someone provide proof?
for both cases? (both mine and okthens?)

would it not be a limitation of the file system?... when you drop a new HD into the ps3, it has to be formated before it's usable. i haven't seen anyone pull that drive out and actually be able to read it when putting it into a computer...
Theoretically, if it's a fat or fat32 type file system on the drive, sure you could copy within the limitations of that file system for a file size... i don't know what the file system the ps3 uses though...

guys guys guys...have you no hope? They said with the psp you couldnt fix a full brick cuz how can you run something on it if its off. And look what happened! Just give it a few months to a year and things will be just like the psp. I sorta hope not though because my psp got boring quicker that way. And I dont want something that i paid $500 for to get boring.
PSP>2.0>forgot sum>2.81>3.03>1.5>3.03oea>1.5>3.40oea>custom theme semibrick>3.40oea>3.52 M33>1.50>3.52 M33>1.50 addon 2>3.71 M33>3.71-2 M33

thanks for the backup propagand. :D
i really do believe that its possible.
but at the same time, i seriously agree with you about CFW PSP getting boring. cause when you have unlimited access to all games, it kinda gets repetitive.
kinda like when i was a GM on ultima online. i could have ANYTHING i wanted. the biggest house that you could think of, a custom sword with stats capped at 999999999...
you just get bored after a while, cause you have no limitations. you feel like youve done everything you can. so thats why on my last day i went to luna (main town in shard) and killed everybody there with the "[kill" command. :)
then i uninstalled etc....
so in conclusion, if a CFW for PS3 comes out, then im seriously not gonna do it. i feel like having fun with my PS3. dont you? ;)

PS3 games have been in the Newsgroups for months now,but at the moment there is no point downloading them as there is no way of playing backups yet.

As long as the file itself isnt altered in any way, it should work. You can copy this file all you want and as many times. but it wont play until its in an internal drive for the ps3 and able to play. If it doesnt work you may be the first to have tried it. has to be the same region console. Cant be a us download with a uk version ps3. and the frmware may not matter. firmware doesnt alter the format of games files. now sony may have done something to the ps3 where if the hard drive is removed and its contents (downloaded game files)copied to a different hard drive and then the new HDD placed in the ps3 and it doesnt work, then the hard drive itself has a so called social security number that is identical to the download file that will only play if its in that same console that it was downloaded from. So with saying that the ps3 may notice that its a different HDD and the issue is once it notices that the downloaded game file may not play. But who knows...... cracking that so called (as what I call it) social security number may be the key to a lot more things to comes.

I didn't even know that! That's great to know because that's the reason I bought Warhawk on disk.

I may jsut take my ps3 back to gamestop to get an exchange. My blueray is shot. sometimes it works and sometimes is doesnt. Hope I can get another 60gig. Bad thing is I downloaded warhawk. Anybody know if this back up utility really works and copies the games you have on the hard drive? Im hoping so. I was also thinking since I paid the full $599 for my ps3 and if they dont have a 60gig version and have to give me the 40 or 80, Im hoping that difference comes to me and I will get the disk for warhawk and hopefully another game.

ok the back up and restore tool only works if u use the same ps3 console. dont know if im late findn this out but dont use the back up tool ifits a diff console. just log in and redownload. Now using the same ps3 console but different hdd may allow u 2 restore thehdd games so u wont have to use up ur amount of times u can download ur purchased games, but i dont see where that has been confirmed
