solid state is a good 10 years out before it's "mainstream". Currently you can get 50 blank DVDs for $20. Each being 4.7 GBs, that's 235 gigs total or about 12 gigs per dollar. Now for $15 you can get a single 25 gig Blu-Ray disc, just under 2 gigs per dollar. For just a shade under $300, you can get a 32 gig solid state hard dive, or right at .1 gig per dollar (20 times the price of Blu-Ray on a gig for gig basis, and 120 times the price of DVD).
Blu-Ray "should" have a life span of at least 5 years worst case, and 20+ best case. I'm willing to spend $200 on a player, and another $150 for an upgradeable media hub that will work will all my stuff. So really I'm only spending $50 for the most powerful gaming console currently on the market, and I get a free Blu-Ray movie with it.
I'm sold. Thanks for all the help.

Erm... have you checked the latest sales data from NPD?

No problem man. You should complain to the manager of Gamestop. Regardless how I feel about the PS3, the employee was unprofessional, and really just plain lied to your face. Good luck with your purchase.

I'll be totally honest too, EVERY GameStop employee has always advised me to pick the 360 over the PS3. They just say mainly because of the games, but that the graphics are better of the PS3.
