ps3 to linksys router help

hey guys i need some help here.....I've been trying to get my ps3 to go on line through my linksys wrt54g router and not getting through to internet...any idea how to make it work or what to configure...I've tried everything i can and towards the end it gives me "dns error"....i Google over and over about ps3 wireless to linksys router and nothing helpful....it all fails and I'm frustrated

This is my post from another forum, the guy tried it and it worked for him too.I would suggest giving this a good shot.
1. The first step is to give your PS3 a static Ip address. All the info you need to do so should be found on your computer by running command prompt and typing "ipconfig /all". Enter the DNS server and all the other info from there it asks for, but then pick the IP address yourself, make sure it is in range of what your router is set to, I went with 192.168.1.105, unless you have more than 4 computers that number would be fine.
Next
2. On the router setting page (192.168.1.1 in the internet address bar) under port forwarding, forward ports 80, 443, 5223, 3478-3479, and 3658 to the static IP address you gave the PS3.Give the forwards a name, any you wish.Be sure to check enable beside it.
3. Still on the router settings page go to "administration" then "management" and disable UPnP
You should then be fixed and the PS3 should tell you it is a NAT2 connection
forgive me for the lack of detail as I am at work right now and do not have the page in front of me.

sorry bluewee but i'm a lil lost here.you said to forward port 80, 443, 5223, 3478-3479, and 3658 right.there are only 4 slots to enter 1:application 2:start 3:end 4:ip address.where does all that numbers go to.which is start and which is end?

you have to make them seperatly so for example in your slots it would be:
1:ps3 2:80 3:80 4:192.168.2.X (ip address of your ps3)
in a NEW slot do the same with the different port numbers.
1:ps3 2:5223 3:5223 4:192.168.2.X
1:ps3 2:3478 4:3479 4:192.168.2.X
and so on.
if any of this doesn't work then put you ps3 in a DMZ.

i don't think there is any advantage for port forwarding over DMZ on consoles.
The chances of someone hacking into or sending a virus to your ps3 are virtually impossible, all ports are open on dmz so you wouldn't have to worry about port forwarding.
The firewall and closed ports still protecting your other computers on your network will still maintain there individual protection.
with a dmz you'll get either nat type 1 or 2 and upnp available depending upon the router.
just for info:
Nat type 1: ps3 is connected directly to internet or in dmz mode.
Nat type 2: ps3 is connected through a router/port forwarded correctly
Nat type 3: ps3 is connected through a router/ports forwarded incorrectly

Do you have any wireless device that you can connect successfully on your router??? I was going to help my boss connect his PS3 online and I just realized that he was able to get his Ipod touch to his router with no issues si I told him to do exactly what he did to connect his itouch online and he did not run into any issues.
I bet your problem is something real simple. Do the basic trouble shooting:
-was your PS3 able to find your SSID??
-are you using WPA or WEP encryption keys?
-are you 100% that when you entered your router encryption into the PS3 it was typed in right?!?
I have the exact same router that you have and I had no issues what so ever connecting my PS3 onto the router. I had more problems getting my PSP onto the router :)
If it all fails you can contact Linksys or go to thier website and see if theres any tips or how to there for the PS3.

i contacted linksys and they told me my ps3's wireless ethernet adapter is defective.they too have no clue what is going on.i've checked sony and they just have basic setup.all my pc and laptop connects fine on wireless and i did enter all the wep keys,ssid,dns,ip, all that is correct and all the ps3 gave me is "dns error".i've also tried what bluewee suggested and not successful even tried dmz mode and still fail.

Does your wrt54g router have a wired connection. If so try that. I have the wrt54g3g router an initially had DNS problems and used an ethernet cable to one of my PS3's to get it to work. Subsequently have connected wirelessly without a problem.
Bawango is right, a basic simple setup should work unless the 'linksys' tech is right and you have a PS3 hardware problem.
I'm new to PS3's but if you want to compare settings list all your PS3 Network settings here and I'm sure someone may find something.
I personally don't believe any setting issue on your router since your PC and Laptop connect fine.

i found what the problem was..ps3 does not support WEP security only WPA Personal. i've been messing around with the security and found that WEP is not compatible with ps3...
