Most likely, you will have to download the 3.80 OFW, and a 3.80 m33 file. The m33 file will use the SCE installer and will install a modified version of the 3.80, just like any other CFW.

January 2008 will have a new FW releasing:
-Go! Messenger
>>An official messenger powered by Skype.
Using the same type of Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) that powers Skype, Go! Messenger adds the ability to send text messages via a freshly designed software keyboard, voice messages via a headset or videomessages via the Go! Cam. And it's not just about leaving messages- you can communicate in real time via all three, too. So Yes, that means instant messaging, phone calls or video conferencing.
EDIT: When Dax releases his 3.80 M33. By the time it would be on January 2008.
Everyone would be screwing him (lol) to make a CFW for this upcoming January FW...sorry mods if i'm a bit too harsh. xD
Hey guys i'm right!
Check the latest update on PSP news & u'll know about it! Powered-up Skype!

Yeah it is pretty cool - it's like a pumped up im cause you can also make phone calls from your pc. Most features are free -but some of the phone call stuff isn't - can't remember off the top of my head what the fee features are.
Has the usual - im, video conferencing, group conferencing, share files etc.

From qj.net
http://www.qj.net/Mathieulh-3-80-M33-CFW...g/49/aid/110952
More good news about the highly-anticipated Sony PlayStation Portable 3.80 M33 custom firmware, and this bit comes directly from none other than Mathieulh himself. It seems that as of this writing, the unreleased custom firmware is already in proper working order and boots perfectly. It runs all existing homebrew program in User Mode as well. This in itself should already be great news, as we're pretty much guaranteed a safe, non-bricking and still awesome CFW to play with. Why, then, isn't it released yet?
Mathieulh reports that there are still something that Dark AleX needs to iron out before declaring 3.80 M33 a finished product - namely, the NIDs Resolver that allows the launch of homebrew programs in Kernel mode. It will also help in making sure that all the plug-ins present will be usable without any extensive modifications. It's safe to say that while this doesn't sound like much, it's still a very important (and very time-exhaustive) thing to work on, so we'll just have to be patient until DAX ties up all the loose ends.
Phat PSP 1->MS Slot Dead.RIP
PSP SLIM->3.60->3.71->And with a lil bit of MAGIC->3.71M33->3.71M33-2->3.71M33-3->3.90M33->3.90M33-2->4.01M33-2

I also read in the comments that Mathieuhl will quit making CFW and will start making homebrew for the PS3! Blast, that no-good CFW-developper stealing expensive console!

Oh No!! Bad news!
Guys & Girls that only have the PSP phat (PSP-100X)
will not have Skype!
Skype only supports The PSP Slim.
Quote:
Nikkei also provided a few details on what PSP owners can expect from the Sony-Skype partnership. Skype?s Internet phone technology will be limited to owners of the PSP Slim, which launched worldwide in September. Owners of the redesigned handheld will able to download Skype software directly onto their PSPs and then use a specially designed microphone to communicate.
End of quote.

Can i flash my kids friends slim 3.71 with the easy installer? Or will I brick it? Thanks in advance!

Yes, it's probably because they want you to buy the Slim. Plus, some homebrew maker will probably find a way to get Skype on a FAT PSP so no worries. :P

is it going to be part of the actual firmware or a program? because if it is part of the firmware then i highly highly doubt it would ever get put into the fat because you would have to get rid of so many features...

I think it'll be intergrated in the firmware. But maybe a homebrew coder will take just the part of the firmware that has the Skype and make an independant program out of that.

I understand your point. There is not much room left on the flash to do anything. Heck, DAX had to get rid of korean font and locationfree player to put the 1.5 kernal in.
However, do you really think Sony would release 2 seperate firmwares, one for fat and one for slim?

1st of all proper grammar would be nice. 2nd of all hes doing this for free so that the rest of us can gain from it so if you are in such a hurry why don't u go back to the official firmware and stop your complaining.

LOL, love ur quote Canuckerz.
Anyway speaking of Skype.
There already is a homebrew for Phat & Slim to use Skype.
But it's unstable.
Well at least there's something, better than nothing! :)
Happy Skyping PSP Owners!

there's nothing wrong with the DS. a flashcart and micro sd is almost the same price as a 4gig memory stick, and the touch screen breaks away from the traditional handheld.
all i need is a m3 real cart, and my limited edition zelda gold DS is good to go. those long trips won't be boring, since i have both psp and DS.
