to all newbs getting into the psp scene, be grateful that someone, like dax, is doing custom firmware.

I hope Dax could make it quicker.
By the time he releases 3.80 M33.
Skype OFW would be already out.
Then every Slim owner will be screwing him to make SKYPE 4.00?? M33!! LOL. Sorry Dax.
Can't wait to try out the radio thingy.

I have a question to moderators

do I have to be a uhhh senior member to be a moderator

you guys have the coolest job man

ohh just to stay on topic with cfw
sony is eventually going to make a psp 2 or what ever they're
going to call it, just to counter cfw and modders (sad)

either that or they can just accept homebrew suck up their pride and admit that it's pretty cool and implement cfw and homebrew games well not homebrew games (cause to much legal probs, cummon doom on psp, need rights) but cfw yeah!!!

well thats my opinion

I never forget what an elephant remembers
but I remeber what the elephant forgot

Yeah, it would be extremely cool for a CFW with the new Skype app. GPS would be completely off the charts! 0_0 PSP Forever!

PSP Fat FW route over a few years now:
3.03 >1.5 >3.10 OE-A >3.40 OE-A >3.52M33-3 >3.90M33-3 > 4.01 M33 > 4.01 M33-2 ... > Gen D3

I have some bad news for the fatty owners out there. I'm a total psp noob (just got mine this weekend and flashed it at work monday night) but even I know that the "skype only on psp-2001" thing is because the original psp only has 32mb of system memory. The psp-2001 , aka psp slim/winehouse edition, has 64mb of system memory. Originally Sony said the extra memory was to be used to cache UMD data, therefore decreasing abysmall UMD load times. Now developers are using it, including the skype port.

Unfortunately for everybody involved skype for psp is laggy anyways, so who cares? Of course I'm mr. newb so here's some links for the non-believers. http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/08/ears-on-with-psp-skype/

More likely they'll just have downloadable map packs, guess we'll have to wait and see...

I'm wondering if DAX somehow caught wind about the Skype/NAV upgreades as he decoded 3.80 and on purposely held off upgrading M33 till CES to see if anything substantial was coming down the pipeline.

I'm betting the next CFW will be 4.00 M-33. Because really why should he waste his time on 3.80 at this point. We can already get internet radio via PSPRadio. But a hacked Skype FW would be the holy grail of CFW's.

I don't use Skype right now and have a navi in the car so...I can wait. But if God of War only works with FW 4.00...i'll cry.

I haven't looked into much on the new GPS but it's not free - there is a fee for it.
I need to dig up the article - I think it said it's currently offered in Japan at a fee of around $40 (US).

from http://uk.playstation.com/psp/

As of early Spring 2008, PSP owners need never get lost again ? thanks to a new addition to the Go! range called Go!Explore which puts 3D city mapping in users? hands by turning PSP into a state-of-the-art personal GPS Navigation System. Just enter your destination and Go! Explore will do the rest for you.

Go!Explore consists of an attachable GPS (Global Positioning System) receiver and a UMD disc of the user?s chosen maps. At the touch of a button, users will be able to find their position on a map and work out the direction they need to take. Go!Explore works both on foot and in the car, offering a top-notch personal GPS Navigation System at a fraction of the cost of other systems on the market.

On foot, you?ll be able to plot your way through cities in 3D thanks to the fully modelled city maps contained on the UMD discs. Simply load the UDM disc, select your destination, and watch as the city?s landmarks and points of interest appear on-screen in 3D. You can download new maps and upgrades from PLAYSTATION Store (PC) ? a resource that guarantees you?ll find those special locations wherever you?re travelling.

When you?re in the car, you?ll benefit from different display modes for day and night, meaning that you?ll always get the clearest view of where you?re going. And you won't need to worry about your battery life or where to put your PSP while driving thanks to the Car Adaptor and Car Mount accessories which will be bundled together in one package.

As well as the awesome power of PSP, Go!Explore uses the technology of two other market leaders: map data industry leader TeleAtlas and navigation software legends NavNGo.

?Go! Explore is a stunning addition to the Go! range,? said Stephane Hareau, PSP Senior Brand Manager at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. ?Who would have previously thought that PSP owners would be able to use PSP to navigate their way around an unfamiliar city? It?s an awesome product and another testament to the unrivalled potential of PSP.?

There will be three ways to buy Go!Explore for PSP:

GPS receiver and UMD disc (including maps of the relevant country)
GPS receiver, UMD disc (including maps), Car Adaptor and Car Mount
PSP, GPS receiver, UMD disc (including maps), Car Adaptor and Car Mount
Packs mapping the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg will initially be available, and Go!Explore will support 11 unique audio languages on every geographic version. Updates will be available from PLAYSTATION Store (PC) at store.playstation.com.

Go!Explore launches in Spring 2008. Are you ready for the journey?

This sucks! GPS Unit has been available for ages. Rest of world has to wait, wait, wait!
I've got the unit and use Mapthis! but since it uses Google Maps and my country is so far behind I couldn't navigate from home to work since there is insufficient details.

Am intrested in the Skype option but again we are so far behind it will unlikely work for me. But have ordered some microphones anyway.

Also the TV on PSP hardware is available but only works in Japan! Darn Darn Darn!

For those waiting or wondering why taking so long - check this excerpt from the consolespot.com.
I think you'll understand the delay when you see what's been added:

Heads up, Sony PlayStation Portable homebrew fans - more info has just been released about the upcoming Custom Firmware 3.80 M33, direct from Mathieulh himself. No, it's not yet released, but there is a special bit of news that should make you eager for its arrival all the more - and it has something to do with the way it's going to update your PSP.

So, what's the new info? First off, an exact ETA of the firmware itself - that is, tomorrow. Apparently, a lot of people were expecting it to be released today, but due to an unexpected delay of sorts, it didn't happen.

The reason for this - and brace yourself - is that Dark_AleX has made it so that this new firmware would update the same exact way that Sony's official firmwares do, via WiFi. That means that it's going be a hassle-free, no-messy-installation-needed update (of course, you have to access Network Update for it), and certainly a very welcome addition to the host of features the custom firmware brings.

It could also mean that from now on, all updates will be cumulative - that is, if you've been out of the loop for quite a while and suddenly upgrade to the latest firmware, you won't have to go through the long, hard slog of upgrading through the previous firmwares you've missed. Convenient, and definitely justifies the 24-hour delay.

More news about this upcoming treat from Dark_AleX as it develops.
Mathieulh is Dark_Alex's right hand guy.

I am a big n00b and I admit it...I am trying to learn how to hack and mod my PSP and I just would like to ask a few questions. I know a few people will find me quite annoying but...well you have to start out somewhere. Before I ask my questions I would like to let you guys know a little bit about me. I am an expert computer programmer. When I first learn a new language I am able to pick it up very easy and I feel I can figure all this out easily. Now on to my questions: What is FW 3.80 m33 and how do I install it and use it? With this FW will I be able to use homebrew applications such as UMD dump? Should I upgrade from 3.71 > 3.80>3.80 m33 or 3.71>3.80 m33? And am I making any sense?...I have been trying to read all the forums I could find to learn.

exactly pandora's is great to have as a safty unbricker too. cant wait for 3.80m33 i just saw that DAX's offical site is overloaded and is using mirrors due to so many people waiting its realese. Do you think you will be able to write custom fonts safely in 3.80m33 without corupting the flash folder. Good work DAX you are a hero in the psp world.

phat psp (+[_]%) 1.5>2.0>2.80>3.0>3.50>3.51>3.71>1.5>3.51M33>3.71m33-4>3.80m33?

You don't upgrade to OFW from CFW (that's probably more of a downgrade).

3.71 M33-4 will probably upgrade to 3.80 M33 whenever DAX releases it.

3.80 OFW can be downloaded at the various official sony websites, if you feel like getting OFW and having to DOWNGRADE to 1.50 all over agian.
