Please, any help/advice would be welcome:
Saturday night - before xmas, and my PS3 has stopped reading (and recognising) ALL discs (DVD, BD, CD). Why?!!!
Was working fine earlier today, but put a copy of Casion Royale in, and nothing - not even a whirl noise. Done Restart, Reset, Kept eject button down for 30 secs, but still no discs being recognised.
OPtions:
1) Afterdawn help me - please
2) Buy anoher PS3 for the holidays
3) cry
I bought it off a shop on Ebay in October 2007, so would Sony UK take it for repair? I don't have a receipt - only a Paypal receipt.
Any thoughts or advice would be great...
Meanwhile, "Dear Santa, this year please can you bring me...."
:(

On 12 december 2007 ive got a shiny new ps3 for my birthday.
On 15 december i decided to play my favorite shooter online, CALL OF DUTY 4 so i was forced to download 2.03 to join sony network. Few hours later my ps3 froze and stopped spinning discs, at all. Not even DVD's.
But i wasnt mad, you know why?
Cause i have 2 years warranty, but you my friend, are f*cked :)
This is the known problem caused by firmware 2.00 , 2.01 and 2.03
I dont know what the actual problem is causing this ... as i am still waiting for my unit to return but one of the things that you can do now is to contact your ebay seller and demand a receipt from wherever he got it.
If he doesnt want to help, you can contact EBAY on the charge of fraud, saying that he sold damaged goods. Eventhought its not true, that will put some pressure on the seller.
If that doesnt work, you can always buy a new one at the shop, replace it with the damaged and claim the refund the same day. Thats what i do when i lose my receipt :)
If you don't want to invest, you can always call sony and shout that you will sue them because the update killed ur blue-ray and you lost the receipt
Anyway, i wouldnt give up just yet

kingrob,
When you bought it from ebay, did the seller mention any problems with it?
If not, and if you were under the full impression that it was working, I would demand a full refund. I agree with Anthogno... you need to let ebay know as they WILL put pressure on the seller.
Another good reason why you need to be careful about what you get on ebay.

Yea mine stuffed up as well same problem on christmas day, i have had it for a couple of months. I'm blaming the 2.10 firmware. waiting for new firmware to be released now as it will not let me overwrite the current firmware 2.10 with the same. Other people in sites are saying to use cd cleaner but the drive will not kick up to spin the cleaner. Recap: Bios Shit

Hi. When I bought it off ebay it was brand new, not even opened, so was not looking to save cash. I paid top money for it, as I knew 60gb were getting hard to come by.
Today I phoned Sony UK, who are sending a courier out on Friday to Swap it with another 60GB. No receipt was required.
Thanks for your help - the people who did offer support.
