As told by larrylje:

To charge DATEL TOOL battery(Pandora):
Plug in AC adapter in PSP, then when booted, insert TOOL Battery, do not turn your Console off during the charging, BUT, by hold the screen buttom, will the screen turn off :)
You shouldn't have to boot the PSP. Just plug the AC Adapter into the PSP then place the Datel Tool Battery into the PSP. The charge LED light should then come on.

Great guide!! I am NOT a noob however I do have a question or two. Instead of using a battery tool, can I simply make a pandora battery instead? Will a battery for a phat fit into a slim? I am trying to put custom fw on a buddies psp. So I guess I would be using both guides.

thanks for the guide guys.

Have followed the guide and all goes well until I put in the battery - it's one I got off Ebay, so it's not 100% guaranteed. Should i be seeing a menu come up when I put the battery in? As it stands, I can see the programs when I select Game - Memory Stick (I see M33 3.71 update ver 1.50 and 3.71 M33-4) but I don't get anything in regardless of which order I insert the battery/memory card.

Yes a FAT Battery will fit into a SLIM PSP.

Go HERE and use this guide for those steps to use your CFW PSP FAT to install custom firmware to the PSP SLIM.

Thank you for the quick response! That is exactly what I had in mind. Can I assume that this will not have ANY effect on my psp phat? Also, can I then use the Magic Memory Stick and Pandora Battery on any Slim PSP to put this custom fw on?

Hi larrylje

Thanks for your hard work. Ive repeated your guide several times but cannot get it to work.
I follwed your instructions to make the magic memory stick precisely. That all went fine. I then made my own pandoras battery by removing the pin inside.
When I then insert the modded battery I get a green power light, and the green and orange lights on the other side. They all last for about 15 secs, then it turns off.
Alternatively, if I power up with the ac adapter, then insert the modded battery and pull out the ac, then try to install the firmware on the magic mem stick, I get the follwing error:

"The game could not be started.
(80020148)"

ANy advice please? Ive been trying for 3 days to sort this out.

PLEASE HELP!
Thanks :)

Hi,

Great tut! I'm just awaiting my battery now, they've been hard to come by lately.

I was reading other tuts and noticed that this one doesn't have you dump your NAND, should I or is that really just for crazy scenarios?

You should dump your nand. If something happens to your psp it can restore alot faster with the nand. The nand is only for the psp you dumped it with. Do not use with another psp.

Do you know when I can do that, using this guide?
I was assuming it would be before I install.

X is for CFW, O is for OFW, and is [] for the NAND dump?

And after that, is it just a file that resides on my MMS (and if so, where)?

So many questions! ;)

Thanks for the help!

Try placing the Pandora Battery in first then add the Magic Memory Stick.

Do not use the AC Adapter when doing thses steps.

After the WiFi/Memory Stick leds stop flashing press X and see if they start flashing again. If they start again then the custom firmware is being installed. After it has finished flashing press X again so it can shut down (it might auto shut down). So when the green power LED goes off you should have the custom firmware installed.

This is called a blind install. If it works then great if it doesn't then you will need to try recreating the Magic Memory Stick again. Try a different Memory Stick. If your running Vista as an OS on the PC this can cause issues as well. Try using a PC running XP.

You can dump the nand before or after the install. [] is for the nand dump it will make one file in the root of your memory stick called nand. The nand wil make your psp exactly how it was when you dumped it. Remember it is for the psp you made the dump with only!

Hi
Sorry, just one more question...

Now that I have 3.71m33-4, can I format my memory stick (does it still need to be magic?).
Even better, is it ok to use a 4gb stick now?

Thanks

You can format the memory stick and even use it as is, still being a magic memory stick. You of course can use a 4 gig memory stick. The firmware has no effect on the memory stick.
