I GOT A PS3 FOR CHRISTMAS AND SINCE THEN HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THE CABLE I WOULD USE TO CONNECT IT TO THE INTERNET IS DIFFERENT TO THE TYPE THAT I USE TO PLUG INTO THE PHONE LINE AND MODEM SO IT WILL NOT WORK AND I DONT HAVE A WIRELESS ROUTER SO I AM A BIT STUCK....CAN ANYONE HELP??

I think the problem is that you may only have a dial-up connection which comes through the regular phone line, you wont be able to connect to the psn through that unfortunately.
