I am thinking of getting a PS3 and also a BenQ LCD monitor that has HDMI in. The only problem I can see is getting the audio out. Is there a way to have the HDMI out for video as well as audio to my PC speakers? I read a possible solution in another AD thread, but the person never replied that it worked. It seems possible, but it would be nice to hear from someone who's actually done it.

3 different solutions depending on your setup.

1.)You have a surround sound receiver with an hdmi input AND output.
2.)You have a sound system with an optical input.
3.)You use the composite cables to hook it up to a surround receiver/or get a composite -> phono converter, and simply plug into any speaker input.

you can run hdmi for the picture and then use the componant red and white cables for sound through an amp assuming you have the ports it can be done yes. If you have the port you can use a err i think its called a optical cable which has even better sound.

In SaneCrazy's diagram, that could be either a component, composite, or even an optical cable that plugs into the amp, not just a component cable.

the easiest and cheapest solution to you problem if all you have is computer speakers and your ps3 is to buy this

use your hdmi for video and use your composite for audio and connect it to this adapter you use your pc speakers.. ive been using this for weeks and works perfect.. i also have 5.1 surround sound pc speakers but i dont know how to hook that up because i dont have an recevier and the speakers dont have optical in so yea... im just using some nice 2.1 speakers with a sub which isnt so bad

I am being picky here but I was under the impression that component cables more referred to the the Red (Pr), Green (Y) and Blue (Pb) cables used for a video connection. Maybe the better term to describe the red and white audio cables would be RCA audio cables (although component are also an RCA type cable too).

I must commend you on the effort for the diagram. :-D

However, emugamer did say he has PC speakers in which case ccbl gave the right answer... ;-)

The red and white cables are called Composite audio cables. It they have a yellow one as well then they are Composite audio/video cables :)

Yeah there the ones i use through my amp. I have the hdmi for visual and the res white for sound. It does the job.
