just wanting to know how you can play downloaded movies on the ps3. i downloaded them on my pc and put them on a usb memory stick.but when i plug it into the ps3 its saying no files found.
im new to this as well, but if the format is right you should be able to create a folder on your memory stick called ps3 and in that folder create a folder called videos or movies, whatever its called on your ps3, videos i think, and then transfer the movie to that folder!!!
Plug your memory stick into your PS3, go to the movies section in the XMB. Highlight the USB Device, press triangle, then press x on display all. This will then show all video's on the memory stick. From here you can press triangle again and select copy if you want to copy it to the hard drive, or you can just play it straight from the memory stick.
Use either this thread (credit to Smoggie80) to download Divx videos to your PS3

i tried what ibizagti said. it worked but when it came to playing my file it said corrupt data. does anyone know why this would be and how i can avoid it in future.
I'm trying to back up all of my movies to an external HD and connect that to my PS3. I'm having trouble trying to do that with my tv shows. Each file only plays the episode, but I can't pick which episode I want to watch like from the menu screen. So I'm kind of confused of which one I'm watching and where I left off in the show. Is there any way to watch it as if the disc was inserted, and not clicking on each file individually?
Not sure what you are trying to achieve but if it is like kthe PSP you can set it up to just play the files within one folder in sequential order. I'm too lazy to go boot my PS3 atm though. Aside from that the UI for videos and music with the PS3 is poor for harboring more than a handful of files. I uploaded the first 17 seasons of Simpsons on an external drive and it took like 5 minutes each time I accessed the drive just for it to index the whole thing.
Moral of the story, keep everything in nicely organized folders and try to keep as much as you can on the internal HDD, that means probably replacing it. I am going to buy a 250gb HDD to store my many small files and then have a large external drive for my few large video files, like full movie rips fomr my DVDs.
Luda,
I've got over a thousand movies and I just thought it woud be easier to play movies without having to change discs and to keep them organized so I can find what I want to watch.
Plus I'm running out of room to put them in. I'm able to watch regular dvd files with no problem but it's the tv shows that I can't figure out.
Also has anyone used the dvd to ps3 converter? I'm using it and it sucks. I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong.

I use PS3 video 9 or Nero recode to convert downloaded videos, both work really well. Use the latest version of DVDfab to rip straight from a DVD to mp4 for playback on the PS3.
As for connecting the external HDD to your PS3... I recommend keeping the HDD connected to your PC for easy management of your movie files and just stream them via TVersity or Cyberlink Media Deluxe (which is what I use). For Cyberlink there is no indexing or updating, just have Cyberlink monitor a specific folder, and within that one folder you can create sub folders, drop your movies into those and away you go.
If you cannot stream I suggest get with the times and get a router at CC or BB, descent wired ones are going for about $30.
