I would like to know if putting a layer break on a US version could make it not work where it would have otherwise. Also, why am i getting a white screen when I try to boot it?

If you've done everything and tried the media ppl have had success with eg. memorex or verbatim and whatever else - Aone worked for me as well - and SSBB backup doesn't work nor original then you need to consider Nintendos offer to "clean" your lens OR try cleaning it yourself.

I have a pal wii with db2 chip in current formware 3.2E
There is a necessary game update so you have to run it. Worst thing that can happen at this time is dupe channels which can be fixed here.

If you have a wiikey then get the latest update 1.9s here

I meant to post this here originally but I think I accidentally started a new thread. Anywayz...

Has anybody figured out a way to combat the white screen of death?
It's the one with the green text stating that the wii is unable to read the disc. I currently have the 3.2U version Wii and 1.9s version for my wiikey. It is an NTSC wii so I didn't use layerbreak and when I burned it at 4x with Imgburn, it gave me this message. Also, I'm using verbatim dvd+r DL and the NTSC .iso file I'm using is 7.46gb from wizard. From what I'm reading, this should be working. I will try 2x and see what happens but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I'm getting the same problem as the post above me except for that i'm using maxell brand dvd+r's. Can anyone give advice on how to avoid getting the white screen with green text error? I only get it if i go into adventure mode... I get it right after the Mario Vs Kirby fight. I can play classic mode fine.

nvm

my situation is this...i bought my wii about a month ago in Hong Kong from some shop who sold me a modded wii which was great I played a whole buncha fake games with great satisfaction till mario galaxy came out which required me to update...well i disregarded that cause i didnt really wanna play it anyways well my friends bought me a real version of SSBB NTSC US version (my WII is NTSC..a modded US version)I really want to update it and play it but i have absolutely no idea where to begin or how to do it... I've read a lot of forums and have come up with no solution... I live in australia now so there is no chance of me to go to the shop and ask him what kind of chip it is... I've tried playing my original PAL games and they dont work (I originally had a PAL Australian Wii but when I went back to Hong Kong i got a modded NTSC US Wii)

what i do know is that my Wii version at the moment is 3.1U and that it is a G2C-D2C according to WIItracker... people say that i most likely have a d2ckey...

so the question is:

When i put in my retail US SSBB it asks me to update to 3.2 should I just update or what?

I'm sorry for the long post but im desperate =P

SSBB USA is 3.1U so you won't go to 3.2U. To do that you'd have to update online. In any case retail USA brawl should be absolutely fine on a USA D2C console. The update is necessary and you must take it. There is no danger of bricking or anything else.

if ur gettin the wite scren green error message i suggest u change media. ive once used vertabtim disk but i foud out that either my wii or burner arnt reading them properly. The verbatim disk were very loud and wasnt stable so i switch media over to TDK. they worked fine and reduce alot of noise and vibration.

So i suggest u switchin media.

So you think it's the media and not the .iso itself? Like I said before, it's a 7.46gb file from wizard, but I also hear that when you use friidump you will get even a bigger file (7.92gb). So which one of these is the right one?

That's correct - you might get a couple of dupe channels - If you do you can remove them if you go here.

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/642835

I been playing the NTSC game on my PAL Wii - I already had dupe channels and I got rid of them later.

Yeah - it doesn't like the disk - either the brand, the way it was burned or both.

If you update your wii to 3.2E online then you don't need to patch. Otherwise I would either patch with brick blocker or use the NTSC-PAL ppf that is available if you can find it. It may not be necessary because the firmware update on the disk is 3.1 and your wii is 3.1 but I'd be safe rather than sorry tbh.

what is 1.8 argon?
ARGON Modchip with 1.8 firmware.
Sorry if the info is here, but looked all over this thread for the answer. Does anyone know if my Argon firmware has anything to do with my inability for my Wii to read the disk? I tried all the combos (layer break, no layer break, Nero, ImgBurn, etc). I just don't want to go out and buy another spindle of DL's if it's just my firmware...I think my firmware is 1.2 or something like that...definately not 1.8. If it is, I'll get it updated this weekend.

the best thing to do is to keep your modchip updated with the latest firmware. strong chance it's because you have 1.2 ARGON firmware.

ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure

got a whole lot more to list . . .

First of all, apologies if this is repeated info. But I'm trying to work and I have kids on spring break....

I only just installed (well, had installed for me...I'm crap at soldering) a wiikey the one of my kids bought SSBB.

US console; original US game disk; wiikey purchased last year (Dec, 2007...not sure what firmware that would make it)

Got the well documented disk read error. Ran the 1.9s update and game plays fine. However, it seems I need to do this everytime the game is played (or at least between powering off/on the wii). Today, actually got disk read errors on both SSBB and Rabids 2 (never tried that before with wiikey so don't know if that's relevant) even after running the 1.9s. Put 1.9s in and that failed as well. After reboot, re-ran 1.9s, rebooted, put in wii sports. That loaded. Then put in SSBB and that loaded.

Now, I imagine the SSBB is doing an update which is (partially?) undoing the efforts of the 1.9s.

Can anyone confirm/explain what's going on and whether there's a config disk I should use to set it up so that the game always runs?

My alternative thoughts were to install a switch on pin 2 or try the abort update method documented on the 1.9g (wonder if the g is relevant and whether I can abort the update on the 1.9s).

The only thing you can change with the config that might make a difference is the drive speed but I dunno if the proper config is out yet. Original disks should run. If it isn't running as it should then Nintendo claim it's a dirty lens and ask ppl with that problem to get it to them to fix. Other option which they don't recommend is to get a lens cleaner and do it yourself.

There is no ssbb update conflicting with 1.9s either m8 so forget that.

I suppose the dirty lens bit may make sense. I'm interested: is this the first game that people of have had read problems that may relate? And why...is it cos it's dual layer and the other games (I have) are not? I've only really been trawling the forums yesterday/today looking for SSBB info so again, apologies if this is old news.

Thanks for the prompt reply btw.
