Super Smash Brothers Brawl (PAL)

Working tutorial how to rip / play the game.

(Please be aware that this is how i got my Super Smash Brothers Bakup working, others may correct this, but this is a step by step guide of what i did!!!!)

Please excuse this being my first post, I'm just hoping this helps some people. Also BIG BIG BIG thanks to wiichess for the intro guide which guided me through a lot!

Just hope this helps some, very similar to wiichess's version, but maybe a bit simpler?!!

This was done in Windows xp 64 bit, using a LG SH-D163B drive and burned with a Pioneer DVR-112D

Requires:

Wii

GC Controller or Classic controller

Wiikey chip

1 x LG Drive

2 x DVD-R

1 x DVD+R DL (I use the Verbatim)

1 x ORIGINAL Super Smash Brothers Brawl Disc

Imgburn (or similar program)

Friidump v 0.4

1. Go to wiikey site and download 1.9s update and config disc

2. Burn (using program of choice) the iso's that you have received onto a DVD-R each (maybe it's possible to burn on cd-r but i used DVD-R and I'm saying how I did it).

3. Insert update disc and when requested press A on a GC controller or press the "reset" button on the front of the console

4. Wait till 100% complete and then when asked press A on a GC controller or press the "reset" button on the front of the console again.

5. When asked to reboot press the reset button on the front of the console

6. Insert the config disc into the wii

7. Ensure that the region free option is selected (using the GC controller in the wiikey option)

8. Save settings

9. If Friidump came in a rar file, extract it to C:\wii

10. go to start menu and select run.

11. Type in cmd

12. type " cd .. " without the quotes until you are left on the screen starting with C:/>

13. type cd wii

14. now type " friidump -d *: -a " again without the quotation marks, but with the * replaced by the drive letter your ripping from

15. Wait about 6-12 hours

16. You should be left with a file that is 8,511,160,320 bytes

17. If your file isn't that big then delete it and go back to number 10

18. With the ISO that your going to burn open IMGburn or similar program.

19. If using image burn the select Tools > Settings > Write > then in the options menu click user specified and enter the number 2084960

20. Ensure that if your using your own different software that the layer break is set to this

21. Make sure that the speed is set to 2.4X

22. Press BURN

23. Insert disc into wii

24. Install the update when asked to

25. Enjoy Smash Brothers knowing that your original is safe :)

This guide is showing how to back up your OWN ORIGINAL disc.

Hope this helps some people who are getting confused.

Quick FAQ collection from reading these posts.

Q) Can i play my original disc on the wii with a wiikey?
A) YES! the new update for the wiikey allows the game to be played - The update is the 1.9s update

Q) Do i have to burn the two ISO's (from the WIIKEY website) to DVD-R?
A) I DONT KNOW! it's just what i did and this all worked!

Q) I dont have an original or classic controller!
A) Well, apart from missing out on some classic GC games i don't know what to suggest.

Q) My ISO is a different size!
A) Well, rip it again, and again, and again till it is the right size

Q) Will the update stop me playing my other games?
A) NO! The update is just updating the wiikey software, it basically just adds extra features.

Q) How do i burn my ISO from a torrent??
A) No answer. Unless you own the original game (and if you do then you can simply rip it from their) then i aint helping.

I take no responsibility for the misuse of this guide, or for any problems that may arise from using this.

Right i have a PAL ( U.K ) wii
wiikey 1.9s update
Cheap arse Fujifilm DVD+R DL
wiierd`s version of SSBB PAL
Nero Express ( Image file burn )burnt at x2.4

Just burn the disc, no updates to install and click play - So much fuss has been created from this game and it is this simple.

the trouble wasnt burning. it was ripping and playing. hence the reason so many people have been asking so many questions. because simple responses like that just arent helpfull. everyone knows how to download and burn a game. but to make a backup of your own is more difficult. (well. actually probably easier now. and quicker im guessing...)

WHite screen and freeze as game starts to load. Problem cured.

UK PAL wii, Verbatim discs, Wiierd-ssbb iso.imgBurn software.

The above problem was cured by setting the Layer Break. The only other setting change from default was 2.4 speed. Thats all. Works fine.

I am having some problems using friidump and hope someone here can help. I haven't been able to find the iso after making the dump. I've tried the solutions on the " How to use Friidump" thread and it is not working for me. I tried both friidump -d d: -a and friidump -d d: -i ssbb -4 and both times it went 100% successful and i cant locate the iso after. I created the friidump folder in program files and dragged the exe into that folder...i'm using the LG 8164 drive...is their anything i'm doing wrong here? plz help!

Hey everybody

I too am having the same problem, i cannot locate the file after dumping, and then i changed the destination folder name and this time it said "cannot prepare dumper" just after initializing the DVD drive and retrieving disc seeds

Can anyone please help me out with this?
Thanks for your help guys, keep it up
Hi Guys I find that if you actually keep the folder open that the disk is supposed to load into it will appear when you start the rip. Otherwise I can safely say Frii Dump saves the file with the exact name e.g. Super Smash Brothers. Brawl well at least it did for my Australian Version Pal Game. So I would simply do a search on the name
or search for .iso files

Hope that helps

Thanks Conway boy, but i have tried searching for it and leaving the folder open
When I did this I was using Friidump 0.4.0, so i decided to try 0.3.0 and i get that weird thing that somepeople are having where it stops working at 90%, has anyone worked out how to fix that problem?

Thanks Everyone

I have a Jap Wii with a wiikey installed.I had the black screen with error 01 appearing for both SSSB and Mario Kart. I updated the wiikey to 1.9 s, and the Mario Kart is working fine now.

On the SSSB, the error 001 no longer appears, however after loading game, the black screen appears with no error message and the wii crashes.

I have the following :

Wii - Jap version

1.9 s wiikey update

Firmware 3.2J

Any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks in advance

Problem reading SSBB PAL Past Channel Selection screen You have helped me a lot in the past so maybe you can help me with this problem, my Wii can't read this game...

I have a Wasabi V1 Mod on a D2B Drive... initially I burned 4 discs at 2.4 speed to memorex DL one with layerbreak and one without using a matshita burner and a OEM LG burner with "unable to read disc message" i then updated to latest wii firmware 3.3E.

I then burned 2 discs to Vertabin DL at 2.4 speed on the matshita burner again one with layer break and one without, this gave me limited sucess the game shows up on the channel but locks up when selected with a "disc read error", once I even got the dreaded "unauthorised device detected" Error 001 I even tried adjusting the pot to get this game to work but only ended up blowing a fuse on the Wii drive that I had to bridge to get working again (Thatnks for that fix fellas)... I kept it set a around 576 Ohms which in theory should be quite optimal since I am hearing that 500 to 600 Ohms is generally the best setting...
Problem reading SSBB PAL Past Channel Selection screen

I can't use the book setting in any of my burners cause it is not supported by any of my burners...

Not sure but this might be the end of the road for me when it comes to DL games, which is sad cause I can see more DL games being released in the future although from what I read it seems nintendo have been a bit Cavalier with the compatibility of this media on some of the older wii drives (I heard people say they can't even get the Original game to work)... Does anyone have any suggestions?

I read somewhere that putting a label on the disc might help the reading of the 2nd layer as it helps prevent transparency...

Have you tried burning to verbatim with ImgBurn setting the manual split to 2084960. This is generally successful.

I don't know much about the wasabi chip tho I'm afraid, so maybe there are other issues to consider.

Quick question. I'm going to be burning Japanese Brawl soon once my new DVD drive comes, but which kind of DVDs should I use? I am going to be burning the Dual Layer version, so should I use DVD-R DL or DVD+R DL? And what brand is good? I usually use Memorex.

Thanks.

@PsyKid
Use the +R DL.
I recommend Verbatim but if you look through the posts in this thread you'll see others have had success w/ Memerox.

There's a few people who've asked similar questions already without a reply but I'll try anyway.

I have a Japanese NTSC-J Wii modded with a Wiikey updated to 1.9s, etc. Everywhere I've looked has basically told me that with the D2C key I can update with NTSC-J Smash Bros and then be able to play the US version. However, is it the same for the Wiikey??

Basically I wanna know if I can play Smash Bros PAL or NTSC-U on my Japanese Wii.

I didn't get a modchip to just play backups because I still like buying games and didn't want to get screwed over in terms of a lot of great games always not being released in PAL.

Thanks in advance ^^

CloneCd did the business, I burned one at MAX speed on my LG OEM drive to a Vertabin DL and even though it appeared to be writing at x5 speed instead of the certified 2.4 it still worked...

The discs could well be the problem. I have the game working on a verbatim (see post 2 places above yours) I followed the same procedure using Fortis discs and got disc error.
Verbatims are the way to go.
