no not in the case of DL disk... i know verbatims are good and I have been using them for my regular 4.7gig games but many people have had luck with the memorex Dl's and I got them on sale from a local shop.

I'd normally agree w/ this statement....but w/ my drive i've found it won't read dl verbs whereas, dl memorex it does.
I don't Usenet, it uses me.

ok some people advised that SSBB on firmware 3.3 could only run through geckoOS, I got geckoOS for my HBC. the geckoOS would not even read the DL disk for SSBB but there was this 4.7gig version of SSBB that I had downloaded which gave a corrupted file error when loading the disk normally, worked in Black and White mode through the GeckoOS...so I got some luck there but not all the way.

it's wierd, moderators close threads which relate to SSBB and tell you to post here and then no one posts something that relates to the problem you have.

i'd say there's 2 reasons for this...
1/ those posters are too lazy to post in the correct thread once asked to.
2/ some or all of the followers/past contributers of/to this thread probably think that after 130 pages (containing many success stories) that posters looking for help would actually start reading thru the thread for themselves whilst awaiting an answer....

But how can they weight everybody in the same way when I have been reading and reading close to 30 pages out of those 130 pages and later not getting help so I ask a question which no one bothers to reply... no point in reading all the pages when I know the latest firmware(3.3) came out maybe last month or the month before.
Also just to give an update I just burned another iso from Wiierd and got the same issue that I had from Wiizards ssbb iso. (drive clicking, unable to read disk, geckoOS saying "No DVD")
if no one is serious enough to offer help here then might as well close the thread or just close the wii discussion board....
whats the point in that...

A big part of forums is not just to help everyone that asks but also for people to help themselves ie read what's already been posted previously.
I for instance haven't even got a Wii but i can guarantee if i had one needed to to get SBB running i'd read a fair few pages of this and have it up and running in no time at all. ...because as i said, this thread is full of many success stories already.
I'm guessing you've not read far enough yet (whilst waiting for someone to reply).
edited for spelling

alright creaky, if you say it with that confidence I will read more on this thread. But wouldn't be better for someone like me who has wasted time and money looking for a answer that someone can at least point in the right direction. To tell you the truth I am so lost at this stage then I ever was.

If it was something i had personal experience with i'd post the info. But what i can do is state that people have had success in this thread, though i can't tell you where as it's a really lengthy & long-running thread. Plus to be honest reading thru this is a free way of getting this game working, it just takes a while to work thru the first chunk of the thread to find where the success stories start.
Also, the forums tend to be fairly quiet over the weekend so i'm sure more replies will start pouring in by tomorrow.

ok so I got ssbb to run.
it was a 4.7gig version. I previously ran this game through GeckoOS but the game ran in Black and White.
So after much frustration and lack of help, I ended up downgrading my wii firmware from 3.3U to 3.2U
Tried the DL's of ssbb from different iso's and different rippers but they didnt work
Tried the 4.7gig game which initially tried with gecko OS, the game ran fine and in full color. Im only wondering what is it that this version of SSBB might be missing to bring it down to 4.7Gig.

I just tried burning brawl on a ridata DL and I'm getting "An error has ocurred. Press the Eject Button and remove the disc, then turn the Wii console off and refer to the Wii Operations Manual for help troubleshooting." :/
Any idea?
I burned it at x4 with imgburn and layerbreak at 2084960
It was a DVD9 iso. I have a D2Pro 9 v2 on a wiiclip.
Nintendo keeps getting me with every zelda. Bastards. I HATE MARIO

I've been trying to succesfully backup SSBB for a month now. I have read every single forum to the dual layer break to using friidump. I previously rented SSBB at a local blockbuster creating a saved game file. I deleted the file in data files and i put in one of many DL SSBB SONY quality DVD. Created a new save game file, and WAH LAH. IT WORKS. The white screen of death followed by disc read ERROR is gone. Is working as we speak. Good luck this is the last resort and it worked. Delete your previous saved game files you can unlock the chars again.

okay...plz bear with me...this question may have been answered, however, I only found answers to the japanese import version of brawl. I burned Brawl at 2.4x using ImgBurn with a Memorex DVD+R DL. My wii, which has a wiikey 1.9s, reads it fine as it shows up on the channel and such. I already updated my wii with the original copy of brawl so it should be able to play double-layered discs. When i play the backup, as soon as the introduction scene is going to play, there are those green text with white background saying that game disc could not be read. I'm aware that has happened with japanese imports, but I've heard the only way to fix this is to reburn with the layer break...is this true? and is there actually a way to fix this problem? My wii is a NTSC-U 3.2U. Wiikey is at 1.9s.

Guys I have a D2C Wii with a D2CKey modchip.
I burned the ssbb iso using imageburn and layer breaker at 2084960.
I can play the game as the authentic disk with exception of Subspace Emissary. I get the white screen with disc error. I can play the first mission, but it stalls after it starts playing the second round cinematic. Is there anyway to fix this?
Everything else works great. I don't have a compatible LG drive to dump my image so I used the wiisos PAL version of a full DL DVD.

I posted this question in the Firmware update thread and figured it more appropriately belongs here:
I've spent numerous days reading hundreds of pages and want someone to confirm if I understand this correctly.
I have a US Wii at 3.1 with WiiKey at 1.9g. I understand that the 1.9s Wiikey upgrade is in order to play ORIGINAL SSBB. However, this is not necessary to play backup copy of SSBB and that 1.9g will suffice. Is this true? I've read many have problems with playing backups after 1.9s and don't want to risk it if I don't plan on playing the original. (I know other have had no problems)
Also, what update is on the SSBB disk? Does it upgrade me to 3.3? I have the original US disk. I get a little confused on the difference in the updates on the disk and the ones over the net. Being the disk is US and my Wii is US, can I just dump via Friidump and burn the iso with via Imgburn not modifications?
Thank you all in advance for helping out this noob.

After much trial and error, here is what I found works for me:
Memorex DVD+R DL (8X) (rebranded Ritek S04, made in Taiwan).
Burned at 2.4X using Imgburn, with manual layer break 2084960, using Lite-On SOHW 1673S (in PIO only mode).
Running very well on Wii (D2E with 3.3U FW) w/ D2pro.
Had no luck with Singapore Verbatim DVD+R DL or Matrix 8X DVD+R DL (RICOHJPN D01.)(unreadable disc errors). Slightly better luck with Office Depot DVD+R DL (Ritek D01). Game would load, but would crash after 1st round in Subspace Emissary mode (same as poster above).
I guess my Wii prefers Memorex, which is fine by me 'cause they are frequently on sale dirt cheap.
