Filings at the Federal Communications Commission reveal that Sony will be releasing the Ceramic White PlayStation 3 in North America.
Originally released in Japan in November, the 40 GB units comes with a white DualShock 3 controller and retails for JPY 39,980 in the region.
A covering letter from Sony Japan shows that the unit was submitted to the FCC and the American Telecommunications Certification Body in October of last year, requesting short-term confidentiality 'to avoid premature release of sensitive information prior to marketing or release of the product to the public.'
NPD data released last week revealed that Sony sold 798,000 PS3 units in December 2007, the strongest month for sales in the region."
if i bought a ps3 right now it would be the 80gig model. wifi+bwc alone are good (industry standard now,) but if they were included in a white model i couldn't resist. my only other worry is about that dualshock 3 controller.
i own a ps2 already, but there's only no reason i should have to use it (or buy one) if i got a ps3.
it really irks me that they they even made the non-bwc junk. in lieu of an actual price drop, they took $100 worth of equipment (hard drive downgrade and emotion engine) out of that new model.
that sort of thing will probably get better through upgrades and such. i'd probably use bwc rarely, it' just that it's a standard feature. the wifi is the part i can't live without. i couldn't believe 360 doesn't have built-in wireless. to me, that shows they jumped the gun and came out too early.
xbox is supposed to be some sorta online leader, but their console is the only one without wifi and they're also the only ones still charging users to play online. i kinda was aiming for a 360, but when i found out about all that i decided to save up longer and go for a ps3.
I do think myself that Microsoft rushed the 360.
The 360 has had a Wi-Fi adapter from the very start(£59-$120).
The PS3 can do so much more than the 360,dont get me wrong i own both and i like both of them.(my 360 is currently broke and i havnt been able to play it for about 5 months).
Yes it is a bit much having to pay for an add on that should have been added to the console to begin with. The PSP and DS(i think) have built in Wi-Fi,so how hard would it have been to add it to the 360.
psp has it, because i play a little twisted metal online on mine. my cousin has a ds and he says it's got wifi too. i might pay the for the xbox live membership, but not having wireless is a deal-breaker.
i guess i could technically put the modem in the room with my game consoles, but then i'd have to buy a cable splitter and a wireless adapter for my ancient pc.
