mybe a stupid question, but is there any difference between the two besides getting an extra 40gb hard drive? I am looking to getting one, but not sure if I need to spend the extra $100 for the 80gb or if the 40gb will be good enough. any thoughts?
thanks

here are the differences but only you will know what features you will or won't utilize

PLAYSTATION® 40GB system only has 2 USB ports and does not have media card reader slots (Memory Stick/SD/CompactFlash Slots) or BC (backwards capability)

PLAYSTATION® 80GB system has 4 USB ports and does have the media slots (Memory Stick/SD/CompactFlash Slots). it also has LIMITED Backwards Capability.

thats pretty much it. both are Wi-Fi capable, HDMI port, bluetooth, blu-ray, wireless controllers etc.

here is the playstation link that depicts both systems' specs.

from a graphical standpoint, the 80gb ps3 will look NO BETTER or WORSE than the 40gb. they are one in the same graphically.

There might not be a difference graphically but the 40 gig will run more efficiently as they started using a new processor with them that uses less energy to do the same job and also runs cooler.

Also the 40 gig model has upgraded WiFi, to what extent I don't know, its definitely not wireless N or anything like that anyway, but it's better none the less.
