you dont need a chip for it, i just flashed the same drive you have the yesterday. and for slax, just google 'slax cd' download it, burn it to a cd, put it in cd drive, boot off of it, and let it do its stuff until it gets to a login screen, then reboot the pc (press reset). also make sure your 360 is turned on, and connected to the pc during this.

Ok so take the DVD drive out of the Xbox and hook it up to the computer, put the SLAX live CD in the XBOX DRIVE and make it boot off of that? Or put slax in my normal DVD drive and just have the Xbox drive connected?

nah, sorta close, but not really, leave the 360 drive in the 360, just take out the sata cable and hook that to an open sata slot in your pc, (use the power brick to power the 360, also put the av cables where they should be, they dont have to be hooked to a tv, just put in the av slot on the back of the 360.) put slax in your PC dvd drive, turn on 360, turn on computer, let computer boot from slax cd, once its done, reset PC take out slax cd, go into windows, and follow the instructions.

Also: It's time to download Assassins Creed!

lol That's only only reason I'm doing this. I don't really feel like paying for it.

Interesting. Hmm, try this. Right click on the batch file (file with .bat extention, just incase you didn't know), click properties. Then when the properties window pops up, click the compatibility tab and select the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" Then in the dop box try windows 2000.

I have no idea as to whether or not this will work, but it's worth a shot.

Knowledge is power, ignorance is weakness.

I am having an issue with my H47 with IX1.4 and I've been searching all over the net for an answer on what to do...

I know I have all the right equipment to do the mod because I've modded a benq and a ms28 before. I've followed the directions from the textbook (360mods.net) and this tutorial to a T. I get the box into ModeB and I get an error message. I've tried to insert a disc like has been suggested and it doesn't help. Some more info might help find me a solution:

from flashix:
WHAT IS THE HITACHI DRIVE LETTER? = E
CHOSE A FIRMWARE SPEED: 2x 5x 8x 12x = 8x
NAME THE BACKUP FOLDER [Aa-Zz] [0-9] = X16S-0000

error: hitachi dvd drive is NOT flashing!!!
Warning: one of four things could be wrong!
1: your drive is not recognized in windows
2: shut-down all your back-ground programs
3: windows is in-compatible, try SAFE MODE
4: your DVD drive is not a working version

are you sure drive e: is the hitachi drive?

any help would be overwhelmingly appreciated.

Thanks a BUNCH for the tut. After a long and tedius proccess, I finally got everything working! It didn't seem that you were too specific on which Slax to get (maybe I missed it). So I got Slax, full liveCD from their web site and of course that didn't work, then a different version, then an other, etc. About 4 hours of reading, downloading and burning I finally got 2.1! It seems that all the tutoriols I could find on this were old and didn't include the 78 (except yours) and they all pointed to a different version of Slax! ARRGH! Ok, well, all done! It works great! BUT! I accidently burned a game the other day that didn't have the SS.bin (not Ixtreme compatible). Just for laughs I thought I would try it in the newly modded 78. turns out it works?!? How is this possible if it is iextreme 1.4? Am I missing something? I did the entire thing by the letter except for drive speed (I opted for 12x, never had a problem with it before).
What's the deal?
Thanks in advance.

Mod it 'till it's broke, fix it, then mod it some more!

I should also add (in case any one else has this problem)...
When booting to Slax, I get an error (almost every Linux distro does it to me) that tells me to use the "noapic" command. With some distros it is simple, just read the menu for the option that allows you to enter commands. With Slax 2.1 you have to hit "F1" durring boot, then type "slax noapic", then hit enter.
If I remember correctly it's an error to do with my vid. card (I think)
Hope that helps.

Mod it 'till it's broke, fix it, then mod it some more!

I'm sure somone else could answer better than I, but here goes.
Yes you can play on XBL with the custom firmware. I would suggest, though that you keep the xbl playing to a minimum with burned disks and play only real disks on line. Although this is not neccisarry, as I understand it M$ can not recognize the iXtreme firmware and should not be able to see the burned disks if you are using iXtreme. BUT it is the disks that they have seen in the past. Before iXtreme, something about the security sector (and this is where I get fuzzy) wasn't right, it has been fixed since iXtreme. When they banned someone (at least as I understand it) they didn't ban because they were able to "see" the custom firmware, they WERE able to "see" that the game was not written to the disk correctly and that the security sector was missing, or in a different place or something like that. So for saftey sake, I would keep the on line play to real disks only. I do know a lot of people who don't and still havent gotten banned so, it's up to you...

As far as eSATA goes... I thionk it should work, I gave read tutorials on line that talk about usb adapters and such, so maybe. Shouldn't hurt to try. If you don't have on board SATA and no SATA card and the eSATA doesn't work, the VIA SATA cards are like $15.00 so it's no big deal!

Mod it 'till it's broke, fix it, then mod it some more!

A few quick questions, for anyone who might know:

1. Will flashing my drive work on a Windows 2000 operating system? I know XP and 2000 are pretty similar, and I am trying to do this on a system that I can't load XP onto.

2. My other issue is that I can't figure out a way in my BIOS to access any other boot function but from CD (I can also do it from the floppy drive as a very last resort, but wouldn't really want to). My question is: Does my computer need to be able to boot directly from a flash/jump drive in order for this to work, or can I flash my drive by simply booting from the CD-ROM drive?

By the way, I am planning on using a SATA PCI adapter to flash my Hitachi 79 drive, if this info makes any difference.

Thanks everyone for any help!
