Another PS3 price cut is coming, says iSuppli

article published on 3 March, 2008

The large research company iSuppli has said that it believes the Sony PlayStation 3 console will see another price cut during the course of 2008 leading to a huge Christmas for the system. Analyst Pamela Tufegdzic is quoted as saying, "We anticipate Sony will have another price slash on the PS3 this year, and come Christmas, consumers who originally bought the Wii will likely purchase the PS3." ... [ read the full article ]

Man get real, if you want to get physical exercise you dont buy a game console, ahah thats just stupid. You go to a gym.
Hmm, I maxed out 310 yesterday on bench, I don't think I need someone like you telling me about the gym, lol.

Anyways, dude, you get real, you're missing my point here. I'm not saying, "Oh oh, buy a Wii so you can lose weight!", I'm saying that's a plus that the Wii has. You will burn more calories playing that thing then you would playing any other console. But you've got this whole thread tied up to that minor detail, that's not what the discussion is about.

And your comparison of the Wii to the PS3/360 is just plain out wrong. Sure the PS3 and 360 are graphics machines, what's your point? The Wii isn't in the same class, so no comparison can be done on that level.

Stop takin a "swipe" at "goodswipe" lol.
Anyway the guy is right, a Wii could help out some of the overweight kids, adults etc.
If you let them sit on their ar*es staring at a TV screen for most of the day, feeding them the wrong foods, its gonna happen, they,ll become fat.
I have two kids, two hours of TV aday, if the weathers good they,ll be outside with me playin ball etc or helping their mother around the house.

Sorry but I have to disagree with people claiming that the wii in anyway promotes exercise. Unless you call jumping around and waving your arms in the air sporadically exercise. If playing the wii is in any way serious exercise for kids then they're probably already on the fast food diet.

The ps3 is looking more promising every day. Most of my friends already have a 360 and the one's that don't are planning on getting one now that the RROD is "fixed". Not a single one believes me when I tell them that the failure rate hasn't decreased significantly. I've waited long enough for MS to get their act together.

Between all the new games coming out this year for the ps3 and possible price drops I'm sold. I would have had a 360 from the start if it wasn't for the RROD and the cost of live.

Some people just don't get it...

Anytime the heart rate is elevated and your body begins to sweat, you've accomplished a workout.

Boxing - 15 mins - cals burned - 121

Tennis - 25 mins - cals burned - 110

And for those of you who know nothing about those stats, those 121 calories burned from playing 15 mins of Wii boxing are comparable to running at a pace of a 9 min mile - pretty damn good workout if you ask me.

So please take this into further consideration before you post anything else about losing weight with the Wii. ;)

I wish I could stay online and tell you how cool my Wii is and how It is the only physical activity I need all day to counter my caloric intake, but my 10 hours of free CompuServe 56k connection time is almost up.

I agree. . . .some people just don't get it.

No one is saying that playing a Wii is the best exercise in the world. But it does beat sitting your fat lazy butt on the couch pushing buttons and eating potatoe chips.

That's like saying walking isn't exercise. It's not as good as jogging, but again, it's better then sitting on the couch and doing nothing.

I am by no means a "hardcore" gamer, but I enjoy my Wii. I see no point in spending a bunch of money on either a PS3 or a 360 cause to me it's not worth it. The thing to note is I said it's not for ME To each their own though. And if you want a PS3, then of course, any price cut is good news. . .I could just care less.

Well you may be right about that, i just made a joke out of it, nothing personal tho, it was just funny.
We are talking about a "Video" Gaming Console.

Of course Wii isnt at the same class as PS3 and 360.
Wii is a gen(maybe more) behind.
Wii can only be compared to PS2 and x-box(not the 360) and it is not just the graphics is the entire wii console.
I dont know if you have ever read the Specs of each console, but if you haven't, it will be good to do so and see for your self.
When 360 and PS3 start releasing some 1st class game titles and get even more extra features combined with Price cut(to get back on topic ) Wii will be just history.

Same thing happens with the wii

Sony stuff is so great that the past-gen console is still selling great,

Do u even remember how a xbox and a gamcube looks like? don't remind me the 360 .. red lights of hell plus dvd's , this is 2008 DVD's belong to the museum
Holy crap is that a fanboy skewed opinion. So, $250 is supposed to be cheap? "Oh, it's only $250, no big deal, right?"

Did everyone forget that the "cheap" Wii is still outselling everything? It's not like gamers buy one system nowadays anyhow. Most likely, they will own 2/3 or all 3, so they can play exclusives, plus us Wii gamers need our HD gaming fix too.

So, using that theory, why is the PS3 still lagging in 3rd for total sales? The 360 Arcade is $20 more than a Wii now, and the premium/elite 360 is right up there in price range with the PS3. With all of the systems in a competitive price range, why all the fuss over price? CLEARLY, price is not all that matters to those buying the console.

Sony stuff is so great, that the PS2 is still selling? Well, there's your "cheap" theory in action. Besides, can we guess how many PS2 systems are broken and need replaced now? (And there is no way to justify a significant number since the systems are out of warranty by now.)

The "last gen" is so great, that's why the Wii is capturing an audience with graphics that are just above the original Xbox and PS2. The difference is, my Wii and 360 get turned on alot more because there are new games for them.

It's also good to see that you think DVDs belong in a museum. That comment seems justified, since Blu-Ray is finally outselling VHS, which hasn't been prominently carried in retail stores for 5 years, BUT got outsold by a dead HD-DVD title this past week? I wouldn't place a bet on DVD going in a museum anytime soon.

The Wii is basically a Gamecube 1.5. The Gamecube was more powerful than the PS2, but Nintendo didn't go after the 18-35 demographic as it should've and the system didn't move well at all. Other than Resident Evil 4, The Zelda franchise, and some hidden gems like Eternal Darkness, the Gamecube didn't garner much attention from the major demographic. Nintendo also dropped the ball on online gaming & DVD/CD playback in regards to the Gamecube. Outside of handheld systems, these features are industry standard now. Nintendo got it half right with the online side of things with the Wii and the game download choices are better than Xbox Live's. Nintendo probably could've put out a system with all the standard features and a lower price tag.

If have played the Wii for any amount of time, you would know that it is a work out, I have one and raving rabbities, man that game is a good work out. With the Wii fit coming out soon in the US, the Wii will be even more popular with the adults. The system is great family play and for parties.

i own a wii myslef but id prefer real boxin/tennis over wii versions, i dont see how tennis loses 110 calories but boxing u can prolli lose more

bac to the topic: i seriousli reckon those price cuts should happen here in australia, we pay $700 AU for a 60gb ps3 (with no bonuses) while other countries pay around $300-$500 AU but i suppose thats y the wii is 10x more popular here than the xbox n ps3

The more I see about and read about the WII the more I see it as a gimmick for the mainstream joe who knows jack about games...this makes me sad.

the 360 and PS3 are not much better but at least they are offering real games...

Gimmick for the mainstream Joe? I've been around since the Attari, the Genisis, the Neo-Geo, and the good ol' 8-bit NES. I wouldn't say I'm a hardcore gamer, but I do know fun when I see it. Nintendo opened up a whole new era of the way a video game can be played, with the Wii. I don't see why people hate it so much. Yea I admit, there are a lot of titles out there that I definitely wouldn't play, but mainstream Joe's little kid will play it. The Wii has a very broad, target audience, they cater to all ages. So how is it a gimmick?

What I find funny about all this is that the Nintendo Wii had more software sales then any other system other then the 360 (COD4) on just the Wii Play game itself.

January 2008 Software Sales

1. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Xbox 360) -- 330,900
2. Wii Play w/ Remote (Wii) -- 298,100
3. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (Wii) -- 239,600
4. Rock Band (Xbox 360) -- 183,800
5. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (Xbox 360) -- 182,700
6. Super Mario Galaxy (Wii) -- 172,000
7. Burnout Paradise (Xbox 360) -- 144,100
8. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (PlayStation 3) -- 140,000
9. Mario Party DS (Nintendo DS) -- 138,500
10. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (Nintendo DS) -- 133,000

Face it, Nintendo just knows how to market their console...

Update: Before all you guys start bashing me, do keep in mind that I don't own a Wii, PS3, or 360. I swear I'm not a f4nb0y.. ;)

and out of all thos 3 are non sport/party games....

Don't get me wrong but I do not see enough "real games" RPGs,action, adventure,FPS,ect on the WII I do see more than enough mindless party games to make it fun for the average joe kid.

This with no innovation in control options and VC options I am jsut not impressed by it.

Of coarse the 360 is a broken console with a high fail rate and a whole 5 games 2 note worthy that are not on the PC, they refuse to innovate in not only control options but price shcemes and hardware locks.

The PS3 while having a craptacluair start is starting to improve but even so it dose not have the control options I require to enjoy a game.

In the end MS misspent the 360s youth while rich its aged heavily, the WII is doing a great job at brining in the unwashed masses and keeping some gamers happy but so far dose not have enough real games to keep some gamers happy and the PS3 is maturing at a good pace but i would like to see full control options and a cheat device on it by the end of 010.

True, but apparently this is what the masses want.

Only game I really enjoy on the 360 is Halo 3, that game is a lot of fun in multi player mode - especially on a 65" big screen!

And on the PS3; NBA Live 08, MLB O8: The Show, and Madden 08 is where it's at for me.

I'm not to big into all those first person shooters, more into the sports games.

I loath sports and party games,i love RPGs and FPSs but only good RPGs and FPSs....and action...and adventure :P

Not thrilled with halo 3 its over rated so is bioshock, the last FPS that knocked me off my feet was dark messiah(arx fatalis/undying/halo1 before it) the last great RPG I played was FF9 I think I hate the mmo grind fests Jrpgs have become and the minmilized gun and run theme of new FPSs enjoyed DMC3, I don't see a lot of well tuned and polished new games I see alot of medicore titles made for the masses that do not care about quality.

Halo 3 is not bad but good fcking lord they skimpt on the SP side, metroid prime 3 is alil to simplifed but at least tis not watered down like bioshock,Mario gaxely is a improvement over sunshine at least... MGS is solid enough even if I find the control scheme stiff and uncostmizable.....

It's like there's a canned response for console threads:

When it's the Wii, it's a gimmick and kiddie system.
When it's the 360, it's RRoD and PC games on a console.
When it's the PS3, it's too expensive and lacking games.

All are valid arguments, and everyone is entitled to their opinion, but it's getting old. I know I'm tired of having my intelligence insulted. I have a Wii, and I'm not a kid. I have a launch 360 that's never busted. And I'm too poor to buy a PS3! (Okay, enough of that.)

Anyhow, I bought the Wii first and was disappointed graphically, when I bought my HDTV later on. (I would've never noticed with my SDTV.) That's when I picked up the 360. Sony is ironing out the kinks and may get my purchase, but that won't be for another 1-2 years (just as I waited on the original Xbox, when I bought the PS2 first and then Gamecube.)

I must say, other than graphics, the Wii is a good system, has good support, and anything Nintendo branded is deemed a must buy... for the most part. Nintendo just needs to get the 3rd parties back in the fold, because they have been struggling ever since the N64, when everyone bolted for PSX. They need EA, Capcom, Square, Rockstar, etc. to bolster the Wii's core of games so the console doesn't have to rely on kiddie crap, non-gaming games (undersea adventure) and movie/tv license ordeals.

Sony had better keep dropping the price and use their PlayStation branding muscle to pump out systems, because if the Wii ever sits on shelves long enough to collect dust, Nintendo just has to slash the price $50 and those consumers that have been sitting on their hands to get into the next gen consoles are going to come out in droves. (Needless to say, PS2 support has to die also, because alot of people are still sticking to their old systems too, rather than shelling out more money for a 360/PS3/Wii.)

I don't buy sports or party games REGARDLESS of who made it, the WIIhas 3 games on it I want/willing to buy MG,MP3 and err... I forget *L*

the 360 is a ok system is you don't have a worth while PC other wise its redundant and can be a headache, lost oddesy and Halo 3 are about the only games not on PC.

the PS3 is shaping up nicely but I cant think of any titles that are worth more than 20$...well...maybe MSG but I am not a huge MSG fan, FF has been dead to me since the design team has been snorting cocaine on and off.

More rumor the better... there were already rumors that the PS3 gonna get another price cut this summer. With the cheaper price, hell, i can buy another just for dvd/bd/media (something the Wii can't do, and yet, paid $250 for it). Doodling on the Wii (pictures from the memory card) is pretty cool though, kids love it (well, what not to love if you can put a mustache on aunt Jane or horns on uncle Joe, j/k).

What I didn't like about this feature was that there was no erase function. I mean you can erase all those images if you format the thing, but who wants to do that just do delete a few images? They should have included a way to delete images off of it without having to format.

sigh, unfortunately no... the Wii is not the device for more (or even slightly more) complex media needs. The Wii is the Wii, it's not designed to do things what the X360 or the PS3 can.

Picture slides on the Wii is fair, but compare to the PS3, well, the car pictures above pretty sum up the idea (i didn't try this on the X360 yet, b/c it doesn't take memory cards).

There are two things always instant hits at family gatherings and parties. #1 Wii's party games #2 PS3's AVCHD video and picture slides (the Eye's interactive arts are getting praises too). But #1 has problems, too many people and it doesn't work well in crowded areas (elbow Grandma Fanny in the face is no joke).

Peace!
