Hi. After 9 days my PS3 stopped reading discs. I think the laser is dead. Anyone know where I can find one to buy? The sending it in to Sony option is very expensive for me because I'm from the caribbean.

Sony cover's all the shipping so don't worry, send it back to them with the warranty, don't mess with the internals unless your warranty has run out.
hi guys, new to the forum and i have a ps3 issue. I have the 60gb model and it will not do anything. Well, I say anything, I can use the crossbar functions and access the internet, play downloaded content etc. When I put a disc in however, it doesn't pop up on the crossbar. It will not play anything, ps2 ps3 movies, etc. I have heard of this happening with other units and them having to be sent back in. I figure that since everything else works it has to be the blue-ray drive. My question is this, is this something that can be fixed by me getting one of those replacement drives I see being sold? I got the ps3 used so the warranty is out and sony wants 150 dollars to fix it. I just don't want to pay for a drive and then it not work (tech level is moderate so I could swap out the lens reader with no problem)but I don't want to get it and then it won't read games or dvds. Any suggestions?
Yes a replacement drive should fix the problem, though I'd still take it to like a computer repair place and get them to install it for you, the ribbon wires they use inside the PS3 are quite annoying especially if you screw up.
Yeah I know all about the ribbon wires. I had a ps2 crap out because of the drive and attempted to take the drive from one and swap to the other. (don't know why I even thought of trying this) but maybe because it was the old brick style ps2 that was needing replaced and i was trying to use the lens out of a slim line model, I don't know. Needless to say I had to let a friend finish it up.
