I have the exact same question as Bobgamer. I have the same adapter from the same vendor - and wasn't able to get it to work with my 6gb Sandisk microSDHC card.

Did you format it on your PSP immediately - or on a PSP first? Also, what firmware do you have - and had you installed the memory fix?

I got my new one today I just didn't check the mail lol, it works as well the same way I described before hook up the psp with the usb format in windows the drag the files from a pro duo over to it, I forgot to say there are 2 hidden files called MEMSTICK.IND and MSTK_PRO.IND so you have to enable the viewing of hidden files by going to Tools/Folder Options/View Tab/Then click the show the hidden files and folders check button and the you can see them transfer those the cards root and it will work!

I'm just running 3.90 M33-2 with the 1.50 add-on for the Fat PSP. I didn't even format the 8GB card, I just copied the contents from my 2gig card over to the 8GB, tested it out, and once I saw that everything was working fine, I just threw on some more games and I was good to go.

I don't recall having installed a memory fix when I upgraded it from 3.40 to the current version (I receieved the PSP via a trade a month back).

Times like this is when I wish I had a digital camera. =/

But, just to reiterate, I didn't do any formatting. I opened up the package, copied the contents of the old 2GB microSD card I was using over to it, put it into the microsd -> memstick pro adapter, and it worked without a single hitch.

Awesome, I'm glad it worked for you guys. Besides Mandrilla on this thread, I noticed others on Acidmods weren't able to get microsdhc cards to work.

I wonder if it might be something more simple than firmware version. Ghostpilot mentioned having a fat psp and it worked. I have a slim, and it didn't. Bobgamer, yours worked - do you by any chance have a fat psp?

At this point, I might buy a new 4gig msdhc to test before I go straight to 8 . . .

Oh none at all that I've ever noticed. It's substantionally faster than UMD (which I assume is what you're using). Oh, and by the way all, I found a video on YT of a 8GB MicroSD card + adapter working in a PSP Slim from 3 weeks ago. If only we found this earlier, huh?

have you tried a game like Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core?
I find that the intro lags with even an Geniune 8gb MSPD.
I'm interested to know if the intro plays fine through mircoSD above 4gb with adapter.

Thought I'd pop in and ease your fears. I ran through the intro and three fights into FFVIICC and didn't have any issues whatsoever, no lag or anything of the sort. =)

I'd like to add that there should be no lag with a genuine mem stick either. I used a Sandisk Ultra II 8gb, and had no problems whatsoever through the intro and first few scenes. From a CSO no less.

If you are experiencing lag it's one of the following:
1) Bad file, or compression. Either rip out the iso, or get a new file.
2) Fake memstick - did you confirm that it's magic gate compatible?
3) Problem with your PSP or settings. Perhaps your firmware's too low, or you're not overclocked.

I looked into the problem a little more with the memory stick.
1) The file is clean, not compressed
2) not fake xD
3) I checked the PSP settings but

I think it all just came down to how the Memory Stick was formatted. I formatted the memstick to FAT32 (only option), but used my computer this time and used 64K Clusters (largest size).
I loaded the clean ISO, and it ran fine just like my 4GB :)
Then I tried compressing the ISO to CSO (L9) and it worked like a charm, no lag.

I hope this helps some other people experiencing lagging games with there memsticks.

Thanx for all the help.

just to let everyone know MicroSD's do work in PSP's with a pro duo adapter. I use an 8gb sandisk microSD and pro duo adapter (from Mobymemory) I've bought 7 so far and they all work brilliantly with my Iso's and Cso's. Hope this helps because they are so much cheaper than Pro Duo cards.

just to add i'm using a slim psp with custom firmware 3.90 m33-3 but have been using these cards since i had 3.71 M33 on and had no problems. Don't format it in your PSP first or you will get > format failed message.
Please make sure your Pro Duo adapter supports SDHC some don't but the ones i get from Mobymemory do. 32.99 for the 8gb card and 2.99 for the adapter. I can transfer 8gb of info in approx 10-12 mins using the supplied Micromate high speed usb adapter that comes with the 8gb card-much faster than my old Sony Pro Duo.

I finally got an adapter to work with an 8gb Adata microsdhc card. The adapter was from Semsons, and includes mini and full sd adapters - someone else listed it above. However, I was NOT able to get the adapter to work with my 6gb microsdhc card - perhaps because the PSP firmware doesn't support that size?

I first tried to format the card, and I knew it was going to work when the PSP started formatting . . . but it failed. So . . . I loaded the card in a card reader and formatted it fat32 in my PC. After that, I copied all the contents of a working 4gb memory stick (INCLUDING hidden files). The PSP correctly read the 4gb of files, and the (almost) 4gb of empty space.

I'm pumped. I may never buy another pro-duo card.

I should note that the adapters ARE finicky. I tried a generic from ebay, and it only worked if the microsdhc was pulled out to just the right length . . . it was not at all reliable. I've successfully tried two adapters from Semsons now, however - and gave away the second one.

I just had a frustrating time because I'd bought an 8gb sandisk microsdhc which wouldn't register on my PSP I'd get a message that said "Memory stick can't be read. Please format in system settings". But of course, the PSP can't actually format the microsdhc in the adapter. So I went back to the Adata card which HAD worked, and it couldn't be read either - because I'd formatted it in my PC.

So I came up with the following steps which did work. If your PSP gives a similar message to what I saw - that means that the adapter works, but the card format isn't right. Try the following:

1) Format the microsdhc with adapter in your PSP. It'll fail.

2) Take the microsdhc out and connect it to a card reader in your PC.

3) When you try to access the card, you'll be told that it's unformatted. It'll ask you to try to format the card.

4) Format the card fat32 with default settings - EXCEPT check on quick format. This seems to be important - because a complete format didn't work for me.

5) Copy the entire contents of a formatted memory stick pro duo. ESPECIALLY with the 2 hidden system files. Besides the folders and these two files, the memory stick should be empty.

6) Turn on the PSP and replace the microsdhc + adapter. The PSP SHOULD recognize the card right away.

7) Add your content to the microsdhc either with the PSP or card reader. Either way, the PSP should recognize the card from now on.

This procedure worked with both my Adata and Sandisk cards, which failed to be read. For some reason, a regular fat32 format refused to work until I followed the exact steps above.

Note: Transfer and load speeds will be substantially slower than a memory stick pro duo. But I've noticed NO slowdown in gameplay.
