even if he was to do the switcharoo, he wouldnt be able to get on live right? i mean eventually the broken console makes its way back to ms and they realize the mobo and case dont match. seems like they would flag that serial # and when it tries to go on live they've gotcha- or maybe ive seen one too many movies lately.

huh, you'd think a company like ms would have a way to cross referance the serial #'s or ssomething. i guess they're more concerned with people not getting the $50 live service than people getting free $400 consoles lol.

Can it be unbanned... yes. Is it feasible to do... no. The process requires a mod chip and a lot of delicate soldering. Plus, you'll need a second 360 which isn't banned. And once you use that 360 for unbanning the first one, then the second one can never be used on LIVE again. It'd be simplier to just use the unbanned 360 for LIVE.

And no, purchasing a busted console or just another mobo from eBay won't work. The unbanned 360 must have a working dvd drive.
