Hi cgscott;
No, I do not get any of the FTA channels displayed, just the schedule of programs for all the channels I scanned for.

I managed to fix it all by myself, im so clever!!!
Bought a null modem cable and followed the instructions that way. worked better with dreamup than the DCC version (using the 'digital worldz image'). better menu system/interface and actually prompted on setup for a scan and local time etc.
initially i was worried and thought id have to mess with jtag's or something, but now, all up and running. thanks anyway guys

The only time you need to use jtag is when the box isnt responding to the serial ports. This meaning the box is corrupt or maybe even dead.
If you can communicate with the box via dreamup you can flash whatever image you please to it.

well as a newbie i think i did alreet! when i was using DCC it would connect for a split second then disconnect as it retarted and after looking into it i thought the worst. So in the end, the best root to go down is the good old fashioned, slow and reliable serial!

Try flashing again mate.
then start evcam on a sky sports 1 wait 4 a bit hough can take a couple minutes to load.

I tried watching no mercy on the weekend
but it never came up
instead i got a message saying something about an unauthorized box on the media network trying to access this show,
Will this happen for all PPV shows or is there a way i can get these
its all still up now o_0

Depending on where you live you may have to manually input the channel id for the ppv.
This wont happen all the time and the channel you can see is a test channel and has nothing to do with ppv.
Let me know where you are and what ex cable provider you are and i may be able to give you the channel id's.

Hi guys.Heres a basic question.I,ve never flashed a box before,have a 500c with no image.I have uploaded image dw-vr.rar to desktop.When i get my null modem cable and connect whats next?..ie(a) do i switch on the box,(b)do i copy and paste,drag and drop.(c)what should i see on screen when connected.

ew tutorial
1. You will need relevant software so that your box can be fixed properly.
Dream up, Flash Wizard. Dreambox Control Center. Extract the file and autorun the program. A small box will appear with the relevant software.

2. Now you need this image i have FULLY WORKING! This is a flash wizard file and need to be flashed through the flash wizard program or through Dreamup . PLACE THIS IMAGE ON YOUR DESKTOP. EASY TO FIND.

3. Now that you have downloaded the WORKING IMAGE. Connect to your dreambox via DCC. You will need your Dreamboxes ip address for this. If you do not have it and have an image already on you box. Go into the setup, expert, communications. Your ip address will be in here.
4. Once you have connected to the dreambox. Open Flashwizard. Go into configuration and ultilies at the bottom of the box. Make sure the ip of the dreambox is the same as the one in dcc. It should be. If not change it.
Now Click Install a Firmware to flash memory. Now you will need my WORKING IMAGE. You downloaded above. Click the open folder tab. Browse for the image. Should be on your desktop as instructed above. Click open.
The image should now be visible in the box.
Now click flash image backup. This will install the image to your box.
Takes approx a minute.
Once completed reset the box. PLug into ur tv. And try.
It should now show that the flash is installed.
Do the scan using your area. For example Uk or ntl ie etc.
Once the scan has finished check your channels. TRY SS1 FIRST. If you dont have the channel. Reboot box. This time the evocam should startup and will roll the channels.
This is the simplest way to install this image. If this doesnt work or you have problems connecting to your dreambox you will have to go down the null modem route. Please leave me a message if you have problems with this.
Null Modem Fix:
You will need a program called dreamup.

Then download the image. The null modem one. Save this to desktop.
You need to plug the null from the box to pc.
With the dreambox switched off start up dreamup program.
Then untick use network box. Then click connect. Startup the dreambox.
It will connect. The flash box will then open. Click this it will ask for image. The image you downloaded open that. Then it will flash the image to your box. If asked to flash erase click NO!
Then flow the rest of the procedure mentioned in previous posts.

I was hoping for an image with skins which do not interfere with the picture.

im use a few images. What image are you using? The best transparent image is the gemini project images.

The image i am using is the - dwemptyautoroll - the one you supplied. The skin im am using is the pulse skin by MrDude.
I,ve seen some decent skins on google, but am unsure how i get them. The one i liked is by djsperfect_osd on the www.jokerbird.com

Make sure you use a skin for the 500c.
I installed one and had to re-flash.
The box kept rebooting

Hi Cgscott
Thanks so much for your tutorial,I just unboxed my 500c and within 30mins after flashing and plugging everything in it all just worked. I think a lot of users on here are over complicating this:
1) make sure you have a good signal
2) use a null modem cable, it's easiest
3) choose the right scan for the area you live in, if you get nothing, your signal is crap or you chose the wrong area.
4) enable the evocam by pressing your blue button once u have successfully scanned.
And finally..

Try flashing again mate.
Remember when using dreamup when asked to flash erase click no.
You should be getting some channels. FTA. BBC's etc.
Remember also to scan under your area.
If your in dublin i presume you ntl.
So choose ntl ire as your scan.
