I don't know what that would solve?! It's not like M$ can read that on the disc!

Anyways, I've played games before they were released, and I've had the system modded for 2+ years. But with the new update coming out November 19, I bet there will be a Ban Hammer coming!
I hope not, I'm really looking forward to the Netflix streaming and the new experience...

The new experience looks pretty cool! I don't think that I would ever use netflix though to stream media! I have movies stored on my PC, and it streams just fine with TVersity!

I've have 2 360's one is modded and banned the other is untouched and used for xbox live. I swap out my hard drive between the 2. My question is with new games like fallout 3 already available, if I play it on my modded 360 and save fallout 3 stuff to my hard drive can ms ban my unmodded 360 because they see I have fallout 3 saves? Can ms ban people just on saves alone? Maybe I should just get another hard drive for my banned console.

Same with me. I want to try both games but I can wait if it means it will ban my good 360.

If you play the game on a banned console, and then move the HDD to a good unmodded console, they can't ban that console. You didn't void the warranty on that console, and they don't see you playing a backup on it! I think you will be fine.

if you get any achievements for the game it will save to your gamertag. then if you try to use that gamertag online... it will show that you have played that game.

even if you don't get any achievements it will still show that you had played the game.

Achievments dont mean crap. I got 3, count em 3 360's, 2 modded and 1 NOT modded. Im testing this ban theory with 1 online and one NOT online, using seperate hard drives and moving my tag with the little memory card. Played fallout & gow2 saints and fable. We will see what they do to me. I personally dont think U are in danger, unless u use a bad file iso, un stealth or patched incorrectly. But why cry, if your doing some dirt, be prepared for mud, SUCK IT UP.

I don't know if you were referring to me but I'm not crying, I was just curious. I don't need to play these games so bad that I can't wait. I was just wondering if they could ban you because they saw you had game saves for games that aren't even out yet.

Excuse my reply, I will articulate what I ment, I ment to say achievement dates dont mean crap, u can reset the system date to 2025 or 2005 OFFLINE ONLY, every time u go online it sets according to your time region, and to my knowledge the date that comes on xbox live for your 10 point killtaculare achievement should be THAT DAY u go on live if you originally got it 10 days prior OFFLINE.
Game on my good man!

i asked this same question on the xbox forums and i was told that the achievements you get offline won't have a date next to them.

haven't checked for myself though.

They do have a date, just click on your tag, and any of Your achievemnts and you got the date on em.
I got no reason to lie, and no excitement doing so.

I don't know if it was said but, you will & still can get banned even if your console is not online at the time of playing a backup.

to prevent this clear the cache on the hard-drive before hooking up to live to play the original.

If you have 2 consoles, 1 modded on non-mod and you swap the HDD back and forth Modded(no live or ethernet cable) to Unmodded(Live+EthernetCable) is there a risk of getting banned, or are there steps you should take to keep from getting banned?

I'm just curious of how that would work, and FYI if your not online or signed into live, your achieves do not have dates by them. (the ones gotten whilst disconnected) they will just say "achieved" not "Achieved on 9/9/99 at 9:99"

As a rule of thumb always clear the cache of the hard-drive, after playing a backup, live or no, moded or unmoded.

There are bits and pieces of info on the last session stored on the hard-drive. Every time you turn off your console it dumps a small kernel cache anywhere from 64k to 128k. in this info could be potential Report flags, Such as the flag (=Report next live session) meaning it will send info the next time it detects live this info could range from minor system errors to major errors even potential Mismatch CRC errors.

the reporting service has a major and simple flaw if the cache is set to flag it will not be overwritten, as most cache sessions are overwritten. as such the flagged content is moved too the same place the updates for original xbox games are where the cache is safe from being overwritten but no deleted.

so always clear your cache when your done playing your backup games.

So are you saying even clearing the cache is not a viable fix, or your saying that you have to clear the cache because that's the only way to get rid of the flags? This is all hypothetical because i'm curious as to the process or if there is any such thing as 'safe' backing up

Nice post - I wish this had been around when I was reading up on it all a few years ago.

One point I would make though - it's almost pointless buying a second console for online play, and a modded one for offline play, Microsoft don't do bans that often - and the batch bans they do every 6 months or so mean it's really hard to justify a second console.

If you are modding to download and not pay (hypothetical, I know nobody would be that evil....) you may as well mod your console, and just use it both offline and online until the ban eventually happens (if ever). Here in the UK you can get a core system for between £99-£129 now, and games are generally about £35-£45... so if you get banned every 3-4 games you download you are still saving a bit of money, if you last 6 months and download alot then you may as well buy that new console when it eventually gets banned. I personally don't know anybody who's been banned off live.. one guy I know has had a modded machine from the first mods, and just updates when a new version is out... still not banned, and he's been online the whole time. Obviously it happens... but the odd's are quite slim as long as you keep up with the new updates.

I looked into modding, but my dvd drive is flaky enough anyway, it sticks and makes noises all the time, I've been waiting for it to die and send in for my second RMA, but it's staying alive for the minute... I'm assuming the day my warranty runs out, it will finally give up.

Just to point this out, if you are not connected to live, get an achievement, and then later log into live (on a different day), it will not say you got the achievement on the day that you actually logged into live, nor will it actually say you got the achievement on the day you did. On xbox.com, it will just say "Achieved" not Achieved on xx/xx/xxxx

Ok couple of questions:

Our xbox was bought in January last year, its been played ok online until January just been until the live account ran out. It has not been updated as far as i know and we dont know what firmware is on it since was bought as a modded console from ebay. When all the banning was rife and seemed to occur to everything it was played on with no qualms. Since getting the ps3 the need for xbox live has been
reduced but on the offchance we use pro evo online its worth asking.

-- Would the fact this firmware is old work against us?
-- People have mentioned an update firmware which seems to be helpful ie wont play bad copies etc has this been effective in reducing bans?
-- Would you suggest we change our firmware or leave as is with the old stuff?
-- Im aware its all a risk and evidently its one we have chosen to take, but i would like to lessen the odds where possible.
-- Someone mentioned a program that can be used to check your images validity...what is the best one to use?
-- If/when downloading games if one chooses to do so illegally is there anything you should be looking for to highten the chances of a better copy?
-- Why is using a samsung drive in pc to burn preferable? Why does it make a difference to using a nec (what i have)?
Information along these lines preferable...
-- Is the info about missing data in the how to make copies thread?

1- Yes get the new firmware, 1.4,
2- Use sctrom or xbox backup creator and the other iso checks avaiable
3-IOf u download I recomend newsgroups, keep in mind GIGANEWS & NZBRUS, just google em or check out the search option here with those names.

Good luck

I believe they are referring to using a samsung drive for ripping the original game onto your computer. A good quality drive for burning is important, but I think you misinterpreted what they were saying.

hey guys... i'm new to xbox360 but just got my modded console back from cumberland mods... its working great and my games are playing fine.

but now i'm very concerned about getting banned off xbox live. i didn't know that most games ability to save depending on logging into your profile...

so if i get banned i won't have any way to save my progress in most games ?? even though i have a harddrive and a memory card?? is that really true !! ?? !!
