Hey all,
I just purchased a 60GB PS3 yesterday and it was refurbished so I took the gamble. Now I got home, hooked it up to my TV with the normal RCA cables that come with it, it worked! lol Now I put a game in and it loaded fine, played it for a bit then I said I wanna hook up my HDMI cable. So I turned the PS3 off, plugged the HDMI cable in and went to my TV output settings and turned it to HDMI. I get a black screen, I'm not getting a no signal pop up so it means its working but no picture.... I was like well I can try to go back and use the RCA cables and from the settings in the PS3 change it to HDMI, well no signal now from the RCA cables?? I was like wtf lol So I tried the hold down power button and 2 beeps and so on, still no luck. Different TV and no signals.... Does anyone know what happened?????
I don't think the PS3 is messed as the power works, fans kick in, light stays green, im just getting no video output on any RCA, HDMI, etc... What did I do wrong??
If anyone can help or redirect me with many links about video troubleshooting I would really appreciate it! It sux, it worked first time then now its not... :(

Thanks!

Try holding down the power button for 5 seconds until you hear another beep.

Hey,
I tried that, many, many times! and still no luck. This is what I did. I connected the PS3 to RCA and then video 1 input, I plugged the power cord in, and then turned the PS3 on standby, I then pushed down the power and the light went green and 1 beep, I continued to hold it down for another beep and then let go, nothing happens... Screen continues to stay black. There is power and a signal going, just the screen stays black, this is really weird cuz the first time it worked great then I switch the cord and BAM, all these problems lol
Anything else anyone recommends?

Thanks for helping guys!

I tried different TV's and nothing... Well if u read my first post it says a refurbished console, EB Games. I asked if they new why it was sent away in the bigenning and they had no idea, so I was thinking maybe something with this problem im having. I don't want to return it lol as its a 60GB model and really it's working just no picture and well no sound lol So I dunno what to do... Now when I tried I get to turn it on then instantly its the red flashing light, it does stop doing that if I let it sit for a bit. Ahhh this is crazyness

I don't know what else to try. I did run into this issue when I switched from RCA to HDMI and all I remember doing was restarting the PS3. I did not even have to hold the power button down for a hard reboot.

Weird... Well is there any other kind of hard reboot I can do? I know pulling the HD out does not do anything, or could it? Hmmmm, I tried HDMI - HDMI, HDMI - DVI and RCA - RCA and nothing. :(

Srry for double posting, but i'm just bumping this topic as I heard some other news and curious if anyone else heard this before...

After doing more researching, I heard that since the PS3 was brand new and I connected it to RCA and only ran it for like 10 min and then instantly switching to HDMI to see the difference, I could have burned out the Hard Drive?? I guess ur suppose to let it work in a bit before switching to a higher resolution... This is what I heard and wondering if anyone else came across this before or is it just b/s?? Because isn't ur video/image coming from the Hard Drive? and if thats not working, then there would be no picture to be detected? Thats kinda what's happening here....

Thanks

i highly doubt that has any relavence what so ever...
try it again... start with the rca.. and the correct rca input on the tv.. hold the power button there for more than 5 secs till you hear the beep.. it really should show an image.. if it doesnt.. plug in the hdmi cable and go to the hdmi input on the tv...just try back and forth.. put both cables in the ps3 and tv.. hold button till the beep and switch between input.. theres bound to be a signal somewhere.. really make sure you have the right input setting on the tv..what i find weird is you say the light doesnt go green anymore and just stays beeping red?

i really recommend you take it back in hope that you can exchange it for another 60gb..

Hey guys,
Well I have not replied back for a while but what's to say when the PS3 is not yet working... lol So about 2 weeks ago I took the PS3 to the store I purchased it and they tried to get it working on there TV's but no luck, so there was something wrong for sure. All I could do is wait for another refurbished model come in but they did not know how long it would take.... So I said I'll take the PS3 back home and wait 2 weeks for something to show. Well over the 2 weeks I phoned pawnshops, looked through newspaper ads, ask's friends and family if they new anyone selling a PS3 and check the online ad's, no luck except 40GB models up the a$$ lol I did not want a 40GB... (Nothing wrong with them, just not what im looking for) Plus I could have ordered from eBay, but that was last resort. LOL So since the 80GB are discontinued, I was having no luck. The pawnshops said they get 40GB all the time but the rare 60GB and 80GB maybe 1-2 a month, do I wanna wait, NO. LOL So yesterday I called the store I purchased the PS3 and nothing showed... So I just said ill return it and wait till something shows. About an hour later I got a phone call and they said they received an 80GB refurbished, I was like cool. So for $50 more I could purchase the 80GB and be happy, yes I loose out on the 60G model but I'm not one to worry about playback, so there's no difference between 60GB and 80GB besides playback. I ended up purchasing the 80GB and said its not worth waiting another week to 2 months for a refurbished 60GB to randomly show up and sending it to Sony Playstation is not worth the $120 or w/e. Plus the new Metal Gear or 120GB should be released sometime next month and I have no need to buy it, there's no hardware changes (that I know of...) and really 120GB is not a big deal when I can change it already. I took the PS3 home, hooked it up and it WORKS! LOL So there was something screwed with that 60GB. Now everything seems to be working great, time for some GTA IV.
If anyone has some good links to hook me up with... Like Linux, burning bluerays, etc. Plz do. I know there's stickys but I will get to those later. :P

I appreciate all the help guys and THANKS!

Well guys I need ur opinions on something....

From my last reply I said I received the 80GB PS3 since I had to return my 60GB since it was acting up. Anywayz, the 80GB seems to be working fine but earlier today I got a phone call from EBGames saying that they have a 60GB refurbished PS3 arriving later today or tomorrow. Now since I had a 60GB in the beginning they said I could bring my 80GB and exchange it for the 60GB plus give me my $50 in difference back. How many of u would do this, return the 80GB and get the 60GB and then take that extra money and buy a 250GB Hard Drive on eBay and insert that into the 60GB PS3??? I think getting the 60GB model is a good idea... Now the saying goes, if it aint broke, dont fix it... LOL So should I return my current 80GB and go for the 60GB model??

Thanks

yes you should exchange it.. why not??? its better than the 80gb minus the 20gb difference.. which you plan to upgrade anyways. you'll be a lot happier with the 60gb if you like bwc.. even if you don't.. its there if you want it. i know the 80gb uses software or w.e to get bwc but the 60gb is still better.. do it!!

UPDATE: Guess what! LOL I exchange my refurbished 80GB in for the 60GB refurbished that they received today, I bring it home and hook the PS3 up straight to HDMI output and set my settings on my tv to tv video output HDMI. I turn the PS3 on and it loads up the intializing menu and I hit english and then it detects the HDMI cable, so I click yes to use it. Well the screen goes black for 40 seconds and no picture.... it loads back to the same screen again, would u like to use the HDMI cable, I clicked yes once again, same thing!!! LOL So I was like WTF is up with these 60GB models. I call the store back telling them the problem and they have no idea, so SONY is my next hope. I called them and we tried a few things and still NO LUCK LOL Now when I click yes for the cable to work with HDMI, wait 30 seconds and I get a picture, BUT, the picture is a purple moving wave and an X Enter on the bottum. I click X and nothing happens, its froozen! This is just crazyness!!!! I hooked the RCA cables back up and the PS3 works fine.... I tried the HDMI cable on another console, it works. So SONY said they did not fully refurbish the 60GB and take it back for ur 80GB LMAO Yikes, I have bad luck with them. So tomorrow I can return the 60GB back in once again for my 80GB I recently had and PREY that it will work again LOL
Has anyone had this issue now??? HDMI does not work but it is detected when booting but is not detected in the video settings on the RCA, I think the HDMI output it screwed on the 60GB.
So overall I think I should just stay with my recent 80GB since I don't play much PS2 games when thats the only difference....
But ya, anyone else have this type of issue and can help me out ASAP PLZZZZ hehe

Thanks guys!

From reading your previous posts it seems that first 60GB PS3 you had was not bad. Once you change connections to the TV you must reset your PS3. I know you have tried this before but I don't think you were doing it correctly. Start with system off, turn it on by touching the power button on the system but don't take your finger off. It should take more then 5 sec. but you will probably here 2 beeps then most likely 3 more beeps and your system will turn its self off. Now the next time you turn it on will have all setting reset to factory defaults. Try this with the problem you are having now or give Sony a call. They are always willing to help.

I had the same thing happen to me. I bought a 60 gb PS3 off of someone on craigslist. It worked at his house and he exclusively used it on a SDTV, never tried the HDMI or HDTV. I had similar problems to lilskater. When I called sony, they said that since the PS3 never tasted the HDMI life, when I plugged it in, it must have caused a surge or blown a fuse since the PS3 never used the HDMI port. I am going to eat the $150 and send it back and hopefully they will fix mine instead of sending me a refurbished one that has also never tasted the sweet fruit of the HDMI.

What!? That makes no sense what you say, if that happened then everybody hooked up to a HDTV would of had this problem when they connected it...

Awesome! This fixed my friend's issue just now over the phone. He has a 40 GB PS3, was using it with HDMI at home but when he took it to his mother's house today and tried it on either of her two TVs via RCA cables, the picture was unplayably distorted until I walked him through the above suggestion. He's up and running now. Thanks, exxxtreme!!!

@lilskater

Just a shot in the dark here, is your tv HDCP compatible?
Try this, with the ps3 and tv on, just unplug the hdmi cable and plug it back in, Could be what they call a "handshake" issue.

Good Luck

I hope this isn't a problem with the 60gb models as I just found a brand new one yesterday and put it on lay-a-way since I only get paid once a month. If I end up having problems I will probably be back on this thread begging for help because I do not want to give up a brand new 60gb model...lol.
