For any .mkv files, I use MKV2VOB and have no problems whatsoever streaming with TVersity, even using a wireless connection to my PS3. My PC specs are pretty low and I can hardly play any HD movies on the actual system itself:

AMD Athlon 1.28 GHZ
RAM - 1.25 GB
XP Home
Nvidia GeForce 4 MX 440

I've only had a few files that didn't mux properly or weren't compatibile with the PS3, so I'd say it's a decent, easy solution, even on older systems.

You could also fiddle with the performance settings in Media player. Has a tab you can change some things. How much it buffers and what not.. Under the options tab..Hope this helps.

Most of the .avi and .mpeg files seem to work. i did convert the .mkv to .avi but it didnt play. said the usual file not supported. can any one help or advise me on what to use.

Get a program called tsMuxeR.

1. Load your mkv.
2. There should display 2 streams, audio and video. Highlight the video stream.
3. If the AVC level is higher than 4.1 change it down to 4.1.
4. Select the m2ts radio button.
5. Start muxing.

Now you have a m2ts file fully compatible with the PS3, it is also streamable, not sure if media player will stream it though, I use Cyberlink Media Pro to stream.
Wait.. so after I do this process I get a m2ts file.. but can I burn that onto a DVD-5 to paly on my PS3? if so, with what program?

How can I make tsMuxer burn my .mkv or H.264 onto a DVD5 and keep it in HD?

tsMuxeR doesn't burn, it just muxes A/V streams in to containers, which happen to be compatible with the PS3. Use IMGBurn (freeware) and burn your new m2ts file (from tsMuxeR) to your DVD as a UDF 2.5 data DVD. Once complete pop in your PS3, copy the file to the PS3 HDD and view from there.

What if I do not want to put it on my HDD? (i have no room) Can I still view it as a "data disk" or whatever?

Also, does this mean that I do not need to turn it into a .mp4? I can just burn the .m2ts using Nero and play it on my PS3?

OR---> Can I simply copy + paste the .m2ts file onto a DVD-5 and not burn it (would it my PS3 still play it?)

Sorry, I know its a lot of questions, thanks for all the help guys!

You could. The PS3 would recognize it as a data disc. Go to Video, click your DVD, and it should be there.

Alternatively, you could have tsMuxer mux it into the Blu-Ray format. It'll give you the BD folder, and you'd go about the same burning process. The only difference is (I think) that the PS3 will recognize it as a Video DVD/BD.

You said that "I could"

What exactly can I?

Are you saying that once I turn my H.264 or .MKV into a .mt2s (sung txmuxer), I can just copy + paste it onto a DVD-5, WITHOUT BURNING IT? <- please someone answer this as it saves me 3hr+ of burning!! :D

What's the advantage of:
a) burniing it to the DVD-5
b) changing it into .mp4 format first
c) have txmuxer burn it to a bluray format

For PSP3
- I have a BDMV & CERTIFICATE File that is too large for a regular DVD. I'm assuming I need either a DVD-R dual layer or a DVD+R dual layer or possibly a blu-ray disk. I'm also in the process of downloading a 7Gig .wmv 1080p. What type of disk do I burn that to?

What format disk works on a PSP3 and do you need a special burner to burn blu-ray disks?

Thanks :)
