lol, ok, makes sense. I've had my PS3 since this past Christmas and I just realized that I could play PS1 games... I should have never traded off all my other ps1 games...

You can play backup disks, but in involves opening up your PS3, soldering and cutting etc. Look inn the stickies for the SWAP SWITCH tutorial if your interested.
This is how I understand the whole "compatibility" issue with the PS3: In order to reduce costs and make an "entry-level" PS3, Sony is not including the EmotionEngine chip from the newer PS3's. This is the chip that allows the PS3's to play PS2 games.
I was hosed by this fact. I was under the assumption that ONLY the 40Gb version still had the chip. Not that I really care, I only play a couple of PS2 games and my PS2 is still functional.
No, apparently the 40GB doesnt have the chip, and neither does the 80GB I dont think, they do it all through emulation. Thats why not all games are compatible, but most are.
