Basically i have a HDTV that can go up to 720p as it says in the manual. However when i put the ps3 on and automatically scan it says it can get upto 1080i. I was just wondering if it would make any difference choosing between these two options? As my tv can only go to 720p anyway, and also which one would you use?
most 720p TVs can support 1080i resolutions. Interlaced means the picture is broken down into strips and each one refreshed alternatively. Progressive means the entire picture is refreshed at the same time.
So progressive s better than interlaced. I'm not sure which is better 720p or 1080i, but I doubt you'll see much difference. Just test a game or dvd of both settings and see which you prefer.
Simple answer...Your TV's native res is 720, so it will look better in 720. Because 1080i is the NTSC standard, all HDTV's in the US have the ability to receive and display a 1080i image, just like yours. However, if you could do a blind test and actually tell the difference between 720p and 1080i, I would be impressed.
