Just wanted to know how everyone here is making out with their PS3. I purchased the 60GB version when the first price drop happened last year and I have not had any issues with it.
Reason I ask is because I just read on Kotaku.com that one of their editors PS3 will not read Blu Ray disc but will play PS2 games. Had to be sent back for repairs and it's gonna cost him $149.

I have an original 20 that I purchased on launch day. It's still going strong with no problems whatsoever--and I use it to watch my DVDs now too. No playback issues either.

Ive had mine since last october (60gb). I have noticed that the over flap bit on the ps3 (under the bluray drive) where the air flow holes are is extremely hot. Is anyone elses like this, i have tried directing a fan at it to cool it down.

Directing a fan at air flow vents is not a very smart thing to do especially if those vents are outlets,to my knowledge the PS3 does'nt have overheating issue so leave it alone it'll be fine

Besides that its likely a dust issue a can of compressed air will fix the problem.

Mine puts out very hot air but so do all of my computers. (My vaio especially) It's totally normal and as long as it's not overheating you're in good shape, it's just the fans doing their job.

My 60gb launch console is still running strong, i'm so impressed with the PS3 that i went out and bought the 40gb version which also running solid by the way, you can never have enough PS3's in your home you know what i mean.. I just wish Sony would have kept the nice chrome trimming, card readers, and 4 usb ports that's on my 60gb on the 40gb, but that's why the 40gb version is the cheaper version, who cares i still love it.. Props to Sony QC for testing this baby before releasing the console, i'd like to say the same for M-soft but i just can't after all the problems the 360 has had.. Beleive me i know, i've gone through 3 360's and i'm still on my first Sony PS3... I finally had enough of M-soft sending me refurbed BS so i decided to do the X-clamp replacement myself with great results. MS quality control is so craptastic it isn't even funny, what a shame!!!

Yeah I've noticed that freezing tendency on the Internet browser too since the last updates. Anyone else besides us getting this?

I haven't had freezing but since recent updates when i go on certain websites some of the images wont load up. I turned javascript off and now its fine. Maybe you should try doing that.
