New to the forum - Hello to everybody
Having read through some threads, however still unable to stream video to my PS3 through my NAS - Synology 207.

Use the following programs:

DVD fab to decode a DVD
Nero 7 to recode the decoded in one MPEG-4 media file - (make 1 file of all the vobs and copy it to NAS)

However, still getting the same error from the PS3, that is "data type not supported(800288BE)"

I would like to use the aforementioned programs since I want to be able to easily select subtitles or choose language.

Any help would be truly appreciated

Kind regards to you all once again

What program are you using as the backend to stream it? or is that part of the nas?

Have you tried autogk to encode?
What codec are you using??

blu3man thank for your interest
I'm not using any program to stream. I suppose PS3 should do that - the NAS is only to keep the files in the ps3 structured folders (Video-Photo-Music) and everything is working fine for photos and music.

I do not want to change VOB to Divx (because I believe I will be losing quality of the original) therefore I haven't tried autoqk

Sorry, I don't know anything about codecs. What do you suggest.
Thanks again

you dont want to change vob to divx?
Ok do this then. Rip the files using whatever, then (if you have the programs) use a movie editing suit such as premier pro etc to combine all the vobs into 1 or just use vdub mod.

Im confused as to how the ps3 is reading these files. Is your NAS a DLNA server? or is it just an external hard drive you are pluggin in through a USB port.

please dont decode on the fly... its horrible image quality.
If you must, re-encode them to the best possible quality. (I usually create a 2 GB h264 file using fairuse wizard or i create a 1.4 GB xvid file for your average movie)

Thank you all guys,

blu3man - the NAS is a DLNA server (a really nice machine)

I decode with DVD Fab - the result is a number of VOB files
Then, preferably, I would like to make one file MPEG-4 with the use of Nero 7.
Is there a way to do this?

Dont do yourself a diservice of encoding with Nero.
Once DVDFab has finished ripping, install MeGui, upon installation you will be asked what profiles you would like to import, select xbox360,PS3 profile (not fast version!).
If you are new to encoding, i,ll glady talk you through the use of MeGui, while it is a complex bit of kit, once your set up its easy and by far the best encoder and encodes you,ll get.

Thanks Sudds,

I'll be downloading and give it a shot.
Short questions: 1. Is this program able to preserve video quality
2. Will I be able to select spoken language during the encoding?
3. Will I be able to select subtitles during the encoding?

If yes to the above, I'll be contacting you for additional help!!

Kind regards

1.Yes.
2.You will have to select the audio track yourself. (Demux all tracks).
3.You can use SubRip to extract the subs and MeGUI will convert them to text when you select them in the mux window. You can find a link to the program in the subtitle forum. Make sure you also download the character matrix or you will have to invest a lot of time making your own for different DVDs.

Dear Sudds

I've downloaded MeGui and updated whatever I could - However, I do not even know where to start !!!

To begin with:

1. Do I have to go VOB by VOB file in order to do the conversion to d2v or is there a way to select all the VOBs and do the job?
2. When opening a VOB do I open with one click encoder or D2V creator?
3. What do I do after the conversion?
4. I've also DL SubRip but where do I find the character matrix

Thanx

Select tools, d2v creator, then select the first file from your VIDEO TS folder which will likely be VTS_01_1.VOB, megui will join the rest.
Do not worry about the message that comes up on screen (could not find...) select demux all tracks, tick both boxes, save.
Select queue, start job.
You must install Avi Synth Script and you will need certain dll,s i,ll make up a small download for ya.

Here are the dll,s copy an paste them into the AVI Synth plugin folder.

Select tools again, avs script, here you can tweak what you want.
For me i always encode DVD to Lancos4resize 1920x1072, you will have to manually input this on your script, select edit.
Once your happy tick the box select save.
Now, select RAWAVC for file format.
If you want to can edit the ps3 profile, i have set mine to automated 3pass with a bitrate of 3000, for an average dvd the ending file size is about 2.5gig.
Dont worry about the audio end of things, just leave your AC3 file as is.
Click Enqueue when your finished.
Select queue, select your file, hit start, sit back for awhile. ;P

ok Sudds

This is what I've done so far:

1. Followed your instructions and now I have some new files in the VIDEO_TS like "VTS_01_1 T01 2_0ch 192Kbps DELAY 0ms.ac3" (4file each 2ooo k) and "VTS_01_0.d2v"

2. In your last reply you said to "Select tools again, avisynth script creator, and tweak what you want." I think I should select a file and the supported ones are .d2v (new ones) and .vob (the old from DVD FAB decryption)
Which one should I put in the video input?

3. In the video i want to recode I want to use Greek as audio language (not subtitles). Is there a different approach?

Boy, this is a hard thing to do...

Sorry mate, i forgot to tell you to select the D2V file for AVS script formation.
As long as there was a greek language audio track then it should have been demuxed along with the rest of the tracks.

Hey Sudds

I'm sorry. I've tried everything and still can't make it happen.

I've given up mate - But thanks for your patience.

(Anyway - it would be nice if you had the time to write a walkthough of this program)

Thanks again!!!
