Hello. I bought this Durabrand 5.1 home theatre speeker system today because a) i've been looking to get some suround sound for my room b) it said perfect for games consoles and c) it was cheep. but now its out the box i have no clue how it would work with my ps3. After looking round the internet i found this website and most advise that i've seen given is solid and friendly so please is there anyone who can help me with what i'm missing here.

Connecting the Red and White plugs from the AV/SCART to one of the inputs on a surround system should work fine (don't forget to change the audio settings on the PS3 to the correct output). It's possible you will need to manually select the input on the surrond sound box also. What system have you got luda62uk?

Hume, Give the above a try and let me know how you get on.

Thank you Kelewan but i'm sorry to say it was a no go. i already had it set to the av/scart because i was running the sound out of my cd player so i'm still just left with soundless speekers. the main thing i can't figure out really is that the sub wooper has 3 white 3 red connection slots but the scart only has 1 red 1 white. do i need like an adapter to make it work?

Does the three red and whites have anything written above them? it could be ports for the individual speakers (rear, front and central) or it could be three sets of inputs.

So with just the HDMI cable attached to the TV you get no sound at all?

I do get the ps3 sound through the tv speakers... (which are very good )
I used to connect my suround 5.1 sound via the earphone socket on my old tv but these new models dont have em.

You could simply use a phono to 3.5mm converter, they look like this:

Does your TV have enough phono jacks in the back to support full 5.1 though? It might just have an optical output and in that case you would need a new receiver so you would be better off getting a new sound system.

No problem Hume.

luda, I don't suppose you have a digital audio cable input on you surround system that you could hook up to the ps3? (doubtful as you probably would have already done that)

And I can see from a previous post that you have tried attaching the audio parts of the AV out cable to an input on your surround system....Hmmmm....this is most puzzling. Could you possibly have plugged the cable into the surround incorrectly? or does it have an "Input select" option on the box that needs to be switched to the correct one?

I assume you have also changed the audio settings on the PS3?

cheers canuckz
but my tv does not have a earphone output to plug that thing into,
the problem is that old dvd players had separate audio outputs , but the ps3 does not.

Your looking at it the wrong way the headphone jack part of it goes into your speakers. The two phono lines come from the TV to to the adaptor then presto you have the good old headphone output.

if life was so easy, there is no earphone input to my SS, the problems arise from there being separate audio output from the tv and the PS3

Ah ic, the way you had said it earlier lead me to beleive that you still had a sound system that used the headphone input.

It doesn't have seperate RCA outputs no, but the AV cable that comes with it has the two audio plugs on the end. It also has the TOS output as I mentioned earlier, but that's not much use unless you have the surround system hooked upto an amp with spdif input.

If you have a PC near your PS3, you can use the adaptor Canuckerz mentioned earlier, by plugging it straight into the LINE-IN on our PC's sound card. Plug the red/white cables from your PS3 into the other side and away you go. Only thing it you will have to have the PC switched on for the sound to work.

EDIT:
Sorry, i thought you were talking about PC speakers for some reason...should have read the thread properly before posting...
