Alrite fellas.
I have a PAL console with a D2PRO chip with a wiiclip installed. Got about 30 odd backups which work fine, recently i downloaded a scrubbed version of SSBB and the new MANHUNT 2 - these are the only games that ain't worked on my 3.3e updated machine. I'm assuming it's because they are NTSC versions (MANHUNT 2 hasn't been released yet in Europe). They work on my friends console who has exact same chip but didnt update to 3.3e. Through a bit of research on this thread i've gathered that if i acquired backups of pal versions of these games they'll work fine on my console - can an experienced guy confirm this 100 percent?!
Like has been mentioned previosly - 3.3e wont detect the mod chip, so i'm just assuming its done something to the consloe which affects playing backups from a different region (?)
cheers amigos. a quick response would be awesomely appreciated.

I can finally contribute my own experience with firmware 3.3
Earlier today my girlfriend updated my wii online. However I am happy to say that everything still works. All my backups and originals, my scrubbed disks, my gamecube multi-game collection disks, my emulators and various other programs running via the homebrew channel, everything.
So apparently I was worried over nothing. Sorry for all those having trouble but it shows that 3.3 something that we all have to fear.

Yes, it did. However a new one was released about 4 days later that it doesn't block. A search on here or google will find it.

The iso installers don't work if you're on 3.3, they only work of you're on 3.2 or earlier. If you have 3.3 the only way to install the homebrew channel is the newest twilight hack.

For all those who feel 3.3 is ruining their lives :)
You can now downgrade your wii firmware. See the thread here for details.

Well I have it, I got it from Black Cats. Some other trackers may well have it as part of a wii tools type torrent.
I could host it on a fileshare site and let people download it, but I don't know if its allowed here.
If a moderator confirms I can link to a download for this wad file i will do so.

It would be intersting to see if any of the people who say that updating to 3.3 caused them problems get things working again by downgrading.

I went on a trip recently, but I updated my wii to 3.3u before the trip and all of my backups worked just fine. During my trip, my friends and I played alot of my backup games in our hotel room.
When I got home, none of my backups and imports worked anymore. This makes no sense since they worked perfectly on my trip. I dunno if the wiikey chip got damaged during my trip or something. My legitimate games all run fine.
I have a wiikey with the 1.9s update, US wii, and firmware 3.3U. I'm pulling my hair out trying to get it all to work again...

Today my friend updated my Wii online to 3.3E before we'd updated the WiiKey to 1.9s. I used the downgrader to go back as far as 2.2E then forward to 3.2E but I still can't get the Wii to read a single backup disk (including the 1.9s WiiKey disk). Backups worked fine before the update, sometimes they'd take a couple of restarts.
It is as though 3.3 has modified the drive to not read burned disks at all. I tried using Gecko OS with no luck.
I even tried extracting the files from the 1.9s disk to the apps folder, renaming the "bootldr.dol" to "boot.dol" and using IOS37-64-v2070.wad to load it in the Homebrew Channel; it started but locked up on a black screen.
Has anyone got any ideas?
------------------------------------------------
A couple of hours later now, I got the patch to start from an SD card as above (not sure why it crashed the fist time). I got a "Connection Error" after the patch tried to run which I read means it may need re-soldering.
The chip must have finally come loose when we were screwing round with the SD slot and the GC controller.

It's also possible that the wiikey firmware became corrupted. Did you try the recovery disk?

I just tried the 1.9b recovery disk a couple of times with no luck. I'll get it re-soldered and see what happens.

Bit late in posting i know but just turned on my wii the other day and none of my backups work. just get the unrecognized disk message(100+)
I have wiikey 1.9S and iv been updated to 3.3E in my absence (left on standby(idiot))
First off tried lots of config disks then recovery disk no good. just doesn't recognize any off them.
Thats when i noticed there had been a new system update. After reading through many forum posts i have come up with this.
The 3.3E should not stop backup games unless they are trucha signed
so my games should still play but don't. there is a number of cases with the same complaint as mine. therefore i believe there is a problem with the wiikey config but the recovery disk is truca signed (i think ?) and so are config disks so they wont run.
So if i downgrade to 3.2 and my games work its a problem with the nintendo update if not, i should be able to reconfigure my wiikey.
if it still does not work i will have to check solder points (but has worked no probs for 1 year never moved). Also i read that 1.9s has trouble reading low quality DVDs will try verbatim but was working fine ages after i updated wiikey
steps
1. Roll back to 3.2 using the guide in this tread and zelda hack (dont have homebrew channel and cant add it cos that installs off a trucha signed iso) Check it
2. Retry Config disks and recovery disk and again with quality DVDs. (can these be loaded from SD Card heard someone had success?)
3.Check chip physically (may need replacing, hope not don't have the time and don't want to pay someone else again)
anything iv missed or am i wrong completely any advice appreciated
