My son has seen this yellow dog Linux on the internet and decided he was going to install it on his PS3 without looking at any tutorials or anything.

from what I can gather what he has done is downloaded the iso and put it on DVD. Then set the PS3 to use other OS as default, then he has tried to install the yellow dog on it... but it failed to get further than the first screen on yellow dog install. He rebooted it and now its a brick.

Has anyone got any ideas how to unbrick this.. I am limited with PS3's as I have never used one.

Any help much appreciated.

No idea.

Turn the PS3 on but hold the power button for around 10 seconds until you hear 2 beeps. I've heard ppl say that before, then see what happend. Or is it hold the power button when turning the PS3 off? Not sure try both.
Try taking the hard drive out and turn the PS3 on without it.

Apart from that you'll probably have to return it to Sony to have it repaired. Hope you still have your receipt.

when the PS3 is turned on, press the power button on the front of the PS3. It will beep twice, then keep holding it down and it will beep again and will completely shut down. Turn the PS34 back on and it should reboot to the XMB. You can then format the drive and remove the botched YDL install.
