On July 2nd, Sony released the long anticipated 2.40 firmware update for its PlayStation 3 console. A few users however, were met with bricked consoles or otherwise had freezing glitches and other software failure.
Sony then removed the update from its site, and users trying to update through their PS3 were told firmware 2.36 was the latest available.

I hope this can fix the mess that happened last week because I was lucky to get home from work and find that 2.40 update was gone meaning that I didn't have go thru that but I was really looking forward to having "trophies" added to my gameplay.

There was a "poll" of sorts done by PS3FANBOY.com. The same people that do a simmilarly named site for all the consoles (i.e. Xbox360fanboy.com etc.).
While the site does clearly spell out FANBOY, it does give a moderately decent look at peoples issues with the firmware... although some of the answers fall into a very "grey" area, or even a "why the hell did you vote" area.. its some of the best insight I could find.

2.40 was ok for me though I have one problem that I hope they fixed. The Cross Color Reduction Filter didn't work in game regardless of the option being turned on in the main XMB. It would be on, then for some reason turn off as soon as I launched any game. It's not too bothersome but it would be nice if it was working again.

"Fanboy" is just marketing. It attempts to pit gamers against each other (which they like to do anyway), but enshrine product loyalty to it. I just want to be treated like a valued customer, whether my console is made by Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft.

shhh, don't say that too loud as other ppl on these forums will hear you because according to them there were no issues whatsoever, sony just pulled the update for a laugh.
you know trying to warn ps3 owners that their system can be damaged is "fanboy behaviour" even when sony pull the update themselves, lol some ppl are just too much, sony is god.
*update*
The problem that didn't exist, according to several afterdawn posters has been fixed, according to Lempel. (via US PlayStation blog) Originally posted by PSN boss Eric Lempel: "We want to extend our apologies to the PlayStation community for any inconvenience,"
OMG he is a m$ fanboy putting the ps3 "update" down.

hear, hear. the problem is that the 13 year olds that start posting on afterdawn about 4pm each day are school kids, and they do not know any better, they are suckered in by the marketing and the mags and the programmes that spread this pathetic hatred.
Consume, consume, consume ppl, because if you don't you, must be mad.
At least sony appear to have got this issue resolved relatively quickly. But as i stated in the other forum it's rather sad that code for 1 piece of hardware cannot even but correct, what would they do if they had to write code for the 100,000 different pc's out there? nvidia and ati seem to do ok.

Quote: Hopefully the new update will fix all of 2.40's issues and all users who were not able to get the update when it was available will get in-game XMB access and trophies.
I may just wait a day or two before updating. ;)

Going to assume you haven't written code or worked with electronics before. It is a bit harder than you think. nvidia and ati have the same problems. Their firmware releases don't work 100% of the time either. It happens with pretty much everything. I have done several application migrations(as a Project Manager and as a developer) in my life time and no matter how hard you try, there are some users that get errors. Some application on the production environment will throw you an error or errors after testing it 10-20 times with no errors on the mirrored test, dev, and staging environments.
Granted I feel bad for the people it effects, but you got to fix the issues so it doesn't happen to everyone else and also fix the people that had the issue. Not easy and not fun.

yeah, nobrainer is really annoying, its like visiting a website that you go to frequently, but a whole bunch of ads and popups bombard you everytime you refresh or go to another page within that site. Its kind of annoying listening to the same "song" so to speak with this character, does he work for M$ or Apple or something like that?

First why do you even comment on a product you don't even own.2nd I heard no one on this forum say that there wasn't a problem only question the issue when you have countless people on this forum & Sony forums that have downloaded the update with no issues. So this problem effected 2 or 3 percent what does it matter Sony pulled the update which was the right thing to do.We don't live in this perfect world like you do.Sony admitted there was a problem & has fix it.Here is there response from Sony customer Service you seem to have over looked.
Originally posted by Sony Customer Service: In an official statement issued to ThreeSpeech, SCEE explains the problem with firmware 2.40. It seems that there was a problem which "prevented a limited number of PS3s from activating properly after updating to version 2.40, when certain system administrative data were contained on the HDD." This has now been fixed with 2.41, though those who suffer from the problem (which prevents the PS3 from loading up the XMB) will not be able to access the new firmware update.
Instead, those who had problems with 2.40 will need to contact Customer Services and will receive a replacement PS3. 2.41 will prevent this problem happening to anyone else. The statement also reiterates that those who installed 2.40 successfully will not suffer from any issues. Good news all round, really. We're happy those people who were too slow to grab 2.40 will now be able to start earning trophies and enjoying in-game XMB with the rest of us.

I don't see why Admin let your trolling on this board get a pass when you don't even own a console & Always off topic just to start flame Wars.

@NexGen
I think a reason you see this as unregarded trolling is because some mods probably think nobrainer is actually laying down honest facts and some probably believe he is trolling. I can't speak for the mods or how they go about decided who to throw the hammer onto but I'm guessing in nobrainer's case its gotta be unanimous. Let's face it, nobrainer probably submits a LOT of news articles to aD. My guess is that he is a frequent contributer on keeping this site up to date on current news, atleast anything that has to deal with the bigs bad companies. Whatever construed information is posted on this board from nobrainer or fanboy hogwash I'm sure his contributions as a news submitter to aD outweigh that. I am SPECULATING everything and nothing I just said should be taken for facts. Now resume to the war and obviously not the topic since everything since nobrainer has posted has had something to do with him, lol.
